Rice Lake has been invited to join a regionwide effort to improve the community’s overall health and wellness through a partnership with True Wellness.

The TrueWellness and Blue Zones teams spent the day exploring the River Falls community and all the spaces that help make it such a vibrant and connected place to live. 🌿🚶‍♀️🚴

Built Environment toured local parks, along with trails, river access points, neighborhoods, downtown River Falls, and the UWRF Falcon Center. Throughout the day, we focused on the elements that support healthy living, walkability, bikeability, natural movement, and gathering spaces that bring people together.

We also had the opportunity to visit several incredible community organizations and spaces including Whole Earth Market Co-op, Grow to Share Community Garden, Our Neighbor’s Place, the River Falls Community Garden, and the River Falls Public Library. Seeing the passion and collaboration within this community was truly inspiring. Thank you, River Falls! ❤

Today marked a fantastic finale to a week with very engaged community focus groups in Eau Claire, Rice Lake, Menomonie, Chippewa Falls and River Falls. Stay tuned!

The TrueWellness and Blue Zones teams spent the day in the Rice Lake community exploring all the things that make this town so special. We visited local businesses, grocery stores, parks, the downtown area, senior center and of course enjoyed the beauty of the lake. One of the highlights was a wonderful tour of St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry and seeing the impact they have in the community. We also had the chance to check out the new aquatic center in town before ending the day with our focus groups. It was a full and meaningful day filled with great conversations and connection! A special thank you to our community tour guides!

Today we were in Chippewa Falls, taking time to check out the local shops, schools, and everything that makes this community so special. We wrapped up the day with a great focus group meeting filled with meaningful conversations and valuable insights. We are grateful for the warm welcomes and the opportunity to connect with so many wonderful people along the way!

A great day in Eau Claire yesterday with the Blue Zones team visiting grocery stores, food pantries, community tables, gardens, and local farms. Yesterday, TrueWellness was in Menomonie with the Blue Zones team as part of the Ignite assessment process. The team visited local grocery stores and food pantries, while also looking at parks, sidewalks, roads, walkability, biking trails, and other parts of the built environment that shape everyday health and well-being. We also hosted community focus groups and appreciate everyone who participated and shared their perspectives!

Meet the Team: Kayla Derousseau | Project Manager

Hi, I’m Kayla 👋

I’m the Project Manager at True Wellness. I grew up in Rice Lake, spent the last six years in Tennessee, and recently moved to Eau Claire to be closer to family.

Before this role, I had the privilege of working as a care specialist, supporting older adults in their homes as a companion and helper. That experience showed me firsthand how the choices we make today can shape our health and well-being tomorrow.

Coming back home to do work that supports the people and community I care about has been incredibly meaningful.

I’m excited to continue working to improve our communities by helping make the healthy choice the easy choice, and to support a more connected, vibrant place to live.
