Did you know winter sun can be just as harmful as summer sun? ❄️☀️ Snow reflects up to 80% of UV rays, increasing the risk of eye damage even during sledding or skiing! Protect your child’s eyes with sunglasses, hats, and sunscreen, and learn the signs of snow blindness. Healthy eyes today mean healthy vision for life! 👓

Why Choose South River Pediatrics? Because caring for your family is more than our job. It is our privilege. For decades, we have watched little ones grow, and now those same children are returning with families of their own. Generations of trust, compassion, and connection make us who we are. We are honored to walk beside you through every milestone.

Big coats and snowsuits can make car seats unsafe. In a crash, the padding flattens, leaving space under the harness and your child is left unprotected. Safer ways to keep kids warm and safe:
👶 Dress in thin layers (snug basics + fleece).
🧣 Follow the plus-one rule—babies need one more layer than you.
🛡 Remove coats before buckling, then add warmth over straps (blanket or coat backward).
✅ Check harness tightness—no pinching allowed!
🚫 Skip bulky inserts—if it didn’t come with the car seat, it’s not crash-tested.
🧳 Pack an emergency kit with blankets, dry clothes & snacks.

New Year, Fresh Start! The holiday season can throw routines off track, and getting kids (and teens!) refocused for the second half of the school year is not always easy. January is the perfect time for a little reset!

Help your child get organized by:
✅ Setting up a dedicated homework space
✅ Creating a simple calendar or planner for assignments
✅ Breaking big tasks into smaller steps
✅ Encouraging regular clean-ups of backpacks and desks

A little structure goes a long way in reducing stress and boosting confidence. Let’s start the year strong! 💪

The beginning of a new year is the perfect opportunity to help children focus on forming positive habits. Setting goals, whether you call them resolutions or simply “fun challenges”—can make this process enjoyable and meaningful.

✅ Why it matters: Goals give children something to work toward and help build confidence and responsibility.

✅ Make it a family activity: Sit down together and choose one or two realistic goals your child wants to achieve.

✅ Keep it fun:
Use sticker charts or small rewards to track progress.
Let kids celebrate milestones—like picking the family movie after a week of daily reading.
Turn healthy habits into enjoyable experiences, such as making smoothies to include more vegetables.

When goal-setting is positive and collaborative, it can lead to long-lasting habits that benefit the whole family. What goals are your family setting this year? Share in the comments!

Tantrums are tough, but here’s what you need to know...
✔️ Tantrums usually improve after age 3, but they don’t disappear completely.
✔️ Between ages 1 and 3, tantrums are a normal way for kids to express needs.
✔️ If you’re concerned about your child’s behavior, talk with your pediatrician.

Parent Tip: Stay calm. Give space for the tantrum to pass, then reconnect with comfort. Lean on friends and family for support, it makes a big difference!
