MEOW-1 is a clinical trial being launched by Okava Pharmaceuticals (a California-based biotech firm). Instead of Ozempic/semaglutide, the study uses a different GLP-1 drug — OKV-119
— delivered via a small subcutaneous implant.
The implant is designed to continuously release the GLP-1 compound over a period of up to 6 months. MEOW-1 will enroll up to ~50 cats. Their weight and metabolic health will be tracked at 3 months, with follow-up through 6 months. What the study aims to test / Why it matters The idea behind MEOW-1 is to explore whether GLP-1 therapy could be a safe and effective way to help overweight or obese cats — a big concern, since many domestic cats are above ideal weight.
According to Okava, benefits might include: reduced appetite (less begging/scavenging), better portion control, improved glucose metabolism (which could help diabetic cats), and possibly healthier long-term metabolic outcomes (weight loss, lower risk of obesity-related issues, etc.). The implant approach (versus weekly injections) could make the treatment more practical for pet owners — avoiding frequent dosing. Important distinction: MEOW-1 is not testing Ozempic (semaglutide) itself. It’s using a different GLP-1 agonist (OKV-119 via implant). So even if MEOW-1 shows positive results, that does not mean Ozempic is automatically safe or approved for cats. In fact, most veterinary-medicine sources continue to say Ozempic/semaglutide is not safe or appropriate for feline use. Current standard care for overweight or diabetic cats remains: proper diet, portion control, exercise, and — for diabetic cats— veterinarian-prescribed insulin or cat-approved diabetes meds.

My story

Np2Go was born from an idea that people desire streamlined medical care as advanced as other parts of our lives. We can quickly order food, a ride, or other goods to our homes- so why wouldn’t we be able to order healthcare?

Skip the waiting rooms, avoid unnecessary illness exposure, and choose convenient care. Book online, over the phone, or text! We will discuss your medical history and if you are a candidate for services or not. These services are perfect for on the go parents, homebound patients, and college students. My services are not covered by insurance, which means the costs are upfront and clear with only ONE bill. Pay online (using Paypal, Venmo, Cashapp, or credit/debit card), FSA/ HSA cards, with a check, or cash.
