Homeostasis Press Homeostasis Press: Books, stories, ideas, inspiration. Homeostasis Press began in 2005 as a collaboration between brothers Ted and Bill Merrill.

Ted had recently retired from his lifelong medical career, and Bill was years retired from a teaching career in public schools and university, with a PhD degree in geography. It's been quiet on this page as I wrap another school library year. Lots of books to retrieve, but also a wonderful Early Childhood summer reading list is being built by our community. We're including some titles we suggest for grownups, too. I'll share here when it's complete.

I'm excited to be a guest bookseller at The Neverending Bookshop tomorrow for Independent Bookstore Day! I'll be there from 9-11 handselling my book and some favorites. In addition to buying and selling books, the incomparable Annie is making sure I get my hair done before running off to a wedding. :-)

It's National Poetry Month! Did you know we have some lovely books of poetry in our catalog? Visit the site the check out our offerings by Timothy Merrill and Jo Merrill.
Though THE BEST of IT (by me, Valerie Stein), is memoir, there is plenty of poetry there, as well.

I'll be sharing some of it at The Neverending Bookshop slam event tonight (event link in the comments), and handselling this book at the shop on Indie Bookstore Day.

Here's my well-thumbed copy of River Runts, by Ted Merrill and Bill Merrill. In 1977, I visited the Salmon River in Idaho with my Dad and our Uncle Bill. It was their first return to the area in more than 30 years. Their objective, besides a high school reunion in their hometown, was to seek out their favorite fishing holes from boyhood. They were worried that the march of time would have changed things, and they didn't really expect to find any of their favorite haunts. We tramped all over that countryside, and every remembered spot, each bend in the river, every rock they cast from, was still there. What an honor to be along on that trip as a teenager, splashing snow melt water on my face in the mornings, eating trout with my fingers hot out of the pan. The reality of this book was born on that trip, I'm pretty sure. You can get your own (less well-thumbed) copy from Homeostasis Press.

What a great day speaking with writers at Epic Group Writers' Every Writer Group, at the Edmonds Library. After spending the first part of the session writing to the prompt of the day, I shared a little about the various publishing models folks can use to get their work in print, and what authors need to do before they submit to a small publisher, and well as some things to watch for in order to avoid predatory publishing practices.

Read about these inspiring young people and their work on environmental justice. Our Founder, Ted Merrill, would be proud of the work they are doing.

Whether they are delivering food or climate justice or standing up for clean air or access to nature, these activists are uplifting communities across the country.
