🌸🐣 Easter Sensory Basket Fun 🐣🌸

This week we explored a hands-on Easter sensory basket designed to support social, emotional, and cognitive engagement in a fun and meaningful way.

Our activity included:
- Colorful eggs for visual stimulation
- Soft textures to encourage sensory exploration
- Simple sorting and placing for fine motor skills
- Opportunities for choice-making and communication

Through play, we worked on:
- Attention and engagement
- Fine motor coordination
- Sensory processing
- Social connection and joy

The smiles, curiosity, and interaction made this activity extra special.

Recreation therapy tip: Simple seasonal activities like this can create meaningful moments!

🐾💛 CUDDLING DOGS = THERAPY

There’s something incredibly regulating about spending time with animals.

In Recreation Therapy, gentle interactions like petting or cuddling dogs can help:
• reduce anxiety and agitation
• lower stress hormones
• improve mood and emotional regulation
• support grounding and present-moment awareness
• increase feelings of safety and connection

No pressure. No words needed. Just calm presence.

This is nervous system work in its simplest form.

Recreation Therapy isn’t always structured activities—sometimes it’s as simple as connection, comfort, and a warm little heartbeat beside you 🐶

🌿 What is the Vagus Nerve?

The vagus nerve is a key part of your nervous system that helps your body calm down, regulate emotions, and feel safe.

When activated, it shifts your body into “rest and digest” mode—supporting relaxation, digestion, and emotional balance.

🧩 Simple Vagus Nerve Activities in Recreation Therapy

🎶 Humming – creates calming vibrations
🫧 Blowing bubbles – supports slow, steady breathing
🌬️ Deep belly breathing – helps the body relax
🎤 Singing – combines breath + sound for regulation
😂 Laughter – naturally reduces stress

💛 Why it matters:

These simple, engaging activities support emotional regulation, reduce anxiety, and promote overall well-being through recreation therapy.

🌱 Recreation Therapy in Action: Watering Plants 🌿

Today, our clients enjoyed a relaxing and hands-on activity: watering plants! This simple task isn’t just about keeping greenery alive—it encourages mindfulness, motor skills, and a sense of accomplishment.

Seeing the plants thrive mirrors the growth and care we cultivate in every session.
