Good morning Great Beginnings friends!

Although I've been blessed to have met many of you that follow our page, I know there are so many of you who haven't had the opportunity to visit our boutique just yet. We would still love to share our story with you and encourage you to stop in to shop or maybe even become part of our volunteer team!

Great Beginnings opened our doors in July of 2016 and we have grown significantly since that day with the support of our community. We moved into our current location at 103 N Main (additional entrance at 106 W Central) in December of 2020. We are ran by a volunteer staff of 32 incredible woman!
We are an upscale resale boutique that serves men, woman and children's apparel and accessory needs. All profits directly benefit the Pregnancy and Family Resource Centers and support local families during pregnancy and thereafter.

To introduce myself... I am Christy Stewart, manager at Great Beginnings. I started with the PFRC as a volunteer in March of 2016 and opened the store that July. I am a wife, mom, and entrepreneur as well. I absolutely love and appreciate that I have been able to combine my passion of confidence building fashion, local community service, retail upcycling and serving Christ all in one job, here at Great Beginnings!

In the coming weeks we will be introducing all of our volunteers and their stories so please help me show them love and appreciation for all that they do to make GBB what it is and in turn supporting our great community.

Looking for a fun way to spend quality time creating and making memories with your children? Kids love art and using their imaginations to create designs. They also love making messes and exploring textures and colors - things that are so good for their developing brains!

Sidewalk Chalk Paint is a simple, fun way to do this with your family. The recipe and process is below, so have some fun this weekend & be sure to tag us in your adventure!

Ingredients:
▢ 2 tbsp cornstarch
▢ 2 tbsp water If not painting well enough, add 1 extra tablespoon of water
▢ 1/2 tbsp sidewalk chalk Or approx 1/4 to 1/2 a piece of chalk

Instructions:
1) Add 2 tablespoons of cornstarch into a measuring cup.
2) Add 2 tablespoons of water into the cup and mix. Note: if you find the paint does not paint well, add an additional tablespoon of water.
3) Grate sidewalk chalk to get approx 1/2 tablespoon of chalk. Add it into the cup. If you would rather not grate the chalk, place the chalk pieces into a ziploc bag and bang with a rolling pin until it turns into a similar consistency. Mix.
4) Pour the paint mixture into a muffin tin after mixing thoroughly.
5) Repeat with as many other colors as you want!
6) Get the kids outside with paint brushes on a sidewalk or driveway & have fun!

We are excited to introduce you to Evelyn Johnson, our Receptionist and Executive Assistant! She is definitely one of the joyful faces that makes the PFRC such a wonderful place to be.

In her own words: “I have been a part of the PFRC for 7 years, I think, serving in several different areas.
I have been a receptionist, data entry, dabbled with IT as needed, and have a broad knowledge of many things that
have happened in the office. Currently I work as a receptionist one day and week and and the Executive Assistant
the other 3 days and I am over the Data Entry.
I have been married to my husband for 40 years, we have 3 married children and 8 grandchildren.
I love spending time with family and my hobby is quilting.
My favorite part of working at the PFRC are the clients. Watching them grow in the Lord, in their own self
confidence and holding those precious children.”

We are so thankful for her!

Being a mom is never easy, however, we can offer tools to help you navigate the experience of raising your child/children to become caring, responsible adults. Our classes will offer videos and handouts that will contain helpful information and suggestions to encourage you to teach and train your child/children.

We want to provide you with an environment where you feel safe and comfortable as you learn ways to mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually teach your child. At the end of our journey together, we hope you feel more equipped to handle each situation with your child/children.

We love sharing some of the testimonies we are hearing from the men and women who come through our doors. It humbles us to hear the positive impact the PFRC has on so many lives. We have the privilege of being a part of so many stories and witnessing so much growth from the hard working parents in our community. We are so proud of them and so thankful to get to be in their lives!

How many of you have a memory of doing a lemonade stand as a kid? Waiting for someone to drive by and give you $1 for a big cup of mom’s lemonade was a thrill. Kids love to create and adventure with their family, and this is one way to do it!

How —
:: Set up a cardboard table by the end of your driveway.
:: Make a large pitcher (or two!) of premixed or homemade lemonade.
:: Buy some plastic or paper cups and ice.
:: Have the kiddos help you decorate and make a sign to tape on the front of the table.
:: Text a few close friends or family members and tip them off that the kids would love to see them at the stand.
:: Sit out there for a couple hours on a warm afternoon and talk or play I-Spy as you wait for a car to come!

We like to encourage families to make these memories together. The ideas are simple, but the bonds created last forever— plus it’s so much fun!

Tag us in a photo of you and your family this weekend doing something together and we will be sure to share it!

We are so excited to introduce Kimberly!

In her own words: “I started working in this ministry over 11 years ago. I began as Director for the El Dorado center and then
became Executive Director approximately a year after that. To say that working in this organization has
impacted my life in major ways is not an overstatement. Watching God move in the lives of our clients,
volunteers, staff and board is something that keeps me going year after year. I have seen people choose
life and I have walked alongside those whose stories took another narrative. In all those cases...God has
shown Himself faithful. I have been privileged to learn from young parents as they make a priority of
their families. It is encouraging honestly. There are many heroes in this arena of work and I believe I
work with many such people. I am passionate about empowering others to know God sees them and
cares for them. I believe I have laughed, cried and loved more than I have ever in any ministry I have
been a part of. I love what I do and I love those He brings through our doors. It is a privilege to serve in
this way. My joy is found also deeply in my family I am blessed to have. Grandparenting is my newer gig
in life...and it is probably the sweetest season so far!”

We are so thankful for all that Kim means to our Centers!
