Today, we receive this resolution with hearts full of gratitude and commitment.

On behalf of Angel’s Mission, we would like to sincerely thank the County of El Paso for this meaningful recognition, declaring April as Autism Awareness and Acceptance Month. This is more than a symbolic gesture; it is a powerful statement that our community is moving toward greater empathy, inclusion, and respect for neurodiversity.

Autism is not something to be “fixed,” but something to be understood, supported, and embraced. Every individual on the spectrum experiences the world in a unique way, and it is our responsibility as a community to create spaces where they can thrive without barriers or judgment.

This recognition also honors every family that walks this journey with love, resilience, and courage. To the parents who navigate uncertainty with strength, and to the children, youth, and adults with autism who teach us new ways to connect, communicate, and see the world.

I would also like to extend a special thank you to our partners in this mission. To PdN Children’s Development Center and Autism Hope, thank you for your dedication, your collaboration, and for walking alongside us in building a more informed, compassionate, and inclusive community.

This recognition is an honor, but it is also a reminder that there is still work to be done. Awareness is just the beginning. True change happens when we move from awareness to acceptance, and from acceptance to action.

Let us continue working together to ensure that every person with autism is seen, heard, and valued. Because when a community chooses inclusion, everyone grows.

Today we celebrate “Spread the Word,” a movement led by Special Olympics USA that invites us to choose words that build up, not tear down.

Inclusion begins with language. The “R-word” is not a joke, not a casual label. For years, it has diminished the dignity of people with intellectual disabilities.

Today we raise our voices to replace it with respect, empathy, and real opportunities.

Because every person deserves to be spoken of with dignity.
Because difference is not something to fix, but something to understand.
Because inclusion is not a trend, it is a commitment.

Hoy celebramos el Día de “Spread the Word”, un movimiento impulsado por Special Olympics USA que nos invita a elegir palabras que construyan, no que lastimen.

La inclusión empieza en el lenguaje. La palabra con “R” no es una broma, no es una etiqueta ligera. Es una herida que por años ha reducido la dignidad de personas con discapacidades intelectuales.

Hoy levantamos la voz para cambiarla por respeto, empatía y oportunidades reales.

It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of our dear friend, Roxanne Heard Parker.

Roxanne was more than a friend, she was a pillar of our community, a steady presence, and a source of strength and kindness to so many. Her generosity, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to others have left a lasting mark on all of us.

We will miss her voice, her laughter, and the way she showed up whenever it mattered most. Our community is better because of her, and will not be the same without her.

Please keep her family and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Rest peacefully, Roxy. Your legacy will live on in all of us in Angel’s Mission and in the community of El Paso.

En colaboración con PdN Children’s y Angel’s Mission, esta conferencia tiene como eje central la prevención del suicidio en adolescentes, abordada desde una mirada profesional, humana y sin barreras.
