The Long Red Line: One Billion Rising/Elgin

The Long Red Line: One Billion Rising/Elgin The Long Red Line is a volunteer organization supporting One Billion Rising global movement to change personal and community attitudes toward violence.

The Long Red Line is Elgin's effort to support One Billion Rising, the global upsurge of women and their allies in resistance to rape and all forms of interpersonal violence. On Valentine’s Day, join us to learn how you can create change through self expression, surviving abuse, growing self-esteem, raising our children nonviolently, developing and supporting community resources. As a material expression of support, people are asked to bring a red cloth to connect with others in The Long Red Line. The scarves can be any length, made of any material, any shade of red. Knit it, crochet it, sew it, buy it, or create your own artistic version of it. Scarves of self-restriction and silence – our muffled voices – are transformed into statements of freedom from shame and blame. Sponsors of The Long Red Line are:
Elgin Community College Student Life
Elgin Community Crisis Center
Coalition of Elgin Religious Leaders
Elgin Area AAUW
Open Door
Unitarian Universalist Church of Elgin
Ecker Center for Mental Health
Fox Valley Citizens for Peace and Justice
