If you’ve visited a vineyard this spring, you might think these are baby grapes, but actually are a cluster of tiny flowers!

In grapevines, an inflorescence is the cluster of tiny flowers that eventually forms a bunch of grapes. 🍇 These flower clusters appear in spring, are self-pollinating, and are the key to fruit development. Inflorescence health and number directly impact grape yield at harvest, making it a vital part of vineyard management. 🌱

FACT: No matter where you are in Pennsylvania, you’re less than one hour’s drive from at least one winery.

Pennsylvania is home to more than 300 wineries, producing over 2 million gallons of wine annually. PA is the fifth-largest grower of grapes in the nation, producing dozens of varieties: Pinot Noir, Riesling, fruit wines, and so much more. There are wineries in every region of the commonwealth, and many of them are family-owned and -operated, continuing a centuries-old tradition that began in 1683 when William Penn planted the first vineyard in Philadelphia.

Pennsylvania is also home to many wine trails, perfect for a weekend getaway. Speaking of weekends, wineries are hosting events year-round. So, start planning and Keep Tasting in Pennsylvania.
