As a matter of selfcare, put some thought into what you will do to occupy your mind while you recover from surgery. Many people slip into a temporary state of depression. The effects of isolation, anxiety of "is this right?" and physical effects of pain and pain medication are the perfect storm for depression. Be sure to get some books, puzzles, games, Netflix list etc. One lady that I worked with took on learning a new language during her recovery period! I don't know how far she got with it, but what a great idea!

If you are told that you will be having spinal anesthesia, rest assured, you will have plenty of sedation to keep you unaware and asleep! The sedation is light enough that you will not need breathing support, but heavy enough that you will not be interacting with (OR instructing!😄)your surgical team.

The foundation for The HIP REPLACEMENT ACADEMY started to be laid over 11 years ago. I was hired to create the most ideal, satisfying and successful surgical experience for total joint replacement surgery.

In those 11 years, , I have acquired a truly unmatched understanding of the meandering journey that individuals undergoing joint replacement travel. I have taught about 550 preoperative classes, and coached thousands of patients to the starting line of their journey and beyond.
