Just a reminder: our Spirit TRC Open House is coming up on May 2! 💛

From 12:30–3:30 pm, we’ll be welcoming the community for a free, family-friendly afternoon at the barn. Bring the kids and come spend some time with us!

One of the best parts of this event is that our horses will be out in pens, so you can walk around, meet them up close, give them some pets, and experience just how much love they have to share. 🐴

Be sure to stop by our education station to learn about the care that goes into keeping our equine partners happy and healthy, and how important they are to the work we do at Spirit.

We’ll also be sharing opportunities to sponsor a horse and help support these amazing animals.

We hope to see you there! ✨

My name is Katelyn, and I am the Executive Assistant and Equine Specialist here at Spirit TRC! I started at Spirit four years ago as a volunteer while completing practicum hours. I quickly fell in love with the work and the sense of fulfillment that comes from helping others.

I spent as much time at Spirit as I could, which eventually grew into helping with feeding and caring for the horses. Over time, that led me to my current role where I split my time between horse care and office work. Spirit truly is one of the best things to come into my life, and I feel so grateful to have a job that I love and am passionate about.

If I were a horse, I would be a sorrel Quarter Horse (like our Trapper 😉). My registered name would be Smoke on The Range, and my barn name would be Ember. I would definitely be a cutting horse!

Meet Captain 💛

Captain (aka Grand Press Captain) is our golden guy with a big personality to match his shine. Born in 2005, he’ll be celebrating his 21st birthday this May, and he’s been part of the Spirit family for nearly 10 years.

He’s the boss of his pen, a professional “smiler,” and if you’re lucky… you might get greeted with one of his signature t***s as you walk in 😄 But don’t worry, he makes up for it with his absolute love for neck scratches.

We wouldn’t have him any other way. 💫

Join us for our Open House at Spirit TRC on May 2 💛

Bring the kids, meet all 8 of our incredible horses, and spend time getting to know our equine partners up close. Stop by our education station to learn what goes into caring for them and the important role they play in our program.

We’ll also be kicking off our horse sponsorship efforts, with opportunities to support and care for the horses who make this work possible.

Today we’re celebrating Lad! 💛

He has been part of the Spirit family for 16 years, sharing his gentle heart with so many riders, volunteers, and staff along the way. Horses like Lad make Spirit what it is, and we are so lucky to have him.

Meet Jami Truax

Jami Truax has loved horses for as long as she can remember. She began riding and showing at just three years old, growing up in the barn and developing a deep respect for the partnership between horse and rider.

For more than 20 years, Jami has dedicated her professional life to serving others, especially children and young people with special needs. Her compassionate nature helps create a supportive environment where individuals can build confidence, independence, and joy.

At Spirit Therapeutic Riding Center, Jami brings together her lifelong love of horses and her passion for helping others, creating meaningful and inclusive experiences for every rider. 🐎💛
