Starting Over… As I unpack and set up my office items, I can’t help but think of the faces and hearts of clients I’ve seen. How I miss the ones I had to say goodbye to when moving from Colorado. Goodness, y’all hold a special place in my heart.
I’m just reminded of how every life is so precious and it’s such a gift to be a therapist. I love getting to see clients - the beauty of them and the hurts and the confusion. We are mosaics - made of broken pieces that can be put back together into something so beautiful.
As for starting over, my new office in Missouri holds mostly old components and a few new purchases. Moving is such a strange and BIG thing. You really do start over in many ways and life cannot go on as it did before. We are reshaped when life changes. Within that, there are things to grieve - like the people, the familiarity, the comfort. There is also an excitement, an anticipation of what’s to come. It’s such a limbo of emotions between sadness, overwhelm, and happiness. It’s interesting to see how it all shakes out - what we hold onto from the past and what we allow that’s new to come in. We have to flex when life changes. We cannot deny its change or we won’t adjust.
So, here’s to “Starting Over…”

Hi y’all! I have some fun news! After many years of mulling this over, I have decided to change “Peripateo Consulting” to “Timshel Counseling.” Peripateo began in 2017 as a career coaching business and grew into a private counseling practice. As such, having “counseling” in the title seems pretty darn appropriate. “Timshel” is very fitting for what I help clients foster: identifying, finding, and understanding the choices in their lives. More to come on that, but wanted to give you an update that you will now be seeing Timshel Counseling instead of Peripateo Consulting. Cheers to yet another new adventure but one that I am stepping into with immense ease!

Today. Thinking of all those who... wished they were mommas... are incredible mommas... grieve the loss of their mommas... wished they had a momma... celebrate their awesome mommas... and everyone in between.

Goodness. What a day of potentially loaded and mixed emotions. May you find comfort in the presence of those you love today. May you celebrate great role models and nurturers - whether it's teachers, friend's moms, grandmas, aunts, friends, neighbors, or your own mom. May you find purpose in creative ways that fill any absences that may exist. May you snuggle a fur baby and feel all the love as they gaze into your eyes and you experience that unconditional love.

May you hold celebration and grief in the places and ways you need to. May simplicity, joy, warmth, and beauty find you today, wherever you are.

What a liberating realization. One that we could all benefit from internalizing. Some are better at this acceptance than others.

Acceptance does not mean we like the reality. Acceptance is embracing the truth of what is. The truth is that we are imperfect.

You know, I think of all the various seasons in life where I have certainly felt less than perfect (all 😂). Or the ways I have felt imperfect in my appearance. I was so embarrassed of my freckles growing up. Then I was embarrassed when people told me I looked young. Now I'm somewhat embarrassed of the wrinkles I have incurred. But I am beginning to embrace those aesthetic pieces of me that are certainty less than perfect.

It is such a journey to accept our imperfections. And maybe as soon as we embrace one, another one gets accentuated. A life journey of walking with our imperfections.

But there is power in accepting them and not letting them rule your life. If we embrace our limitations, we step into more greatness. We can move more richly into our strengths, grow from our weaknesses, and find support from others who fill our gaps.

"And now that you don't have to be perfect, you can be good." Rest in that for a moment. And come back to it again and again.

Thank you, John Steinbeck, for your human epiphanies. You had many and we are still learning from them.

Although mental health stigma has gradually decreased in recent years - many thanks to famous athletes, actors and so on, openly discussing their mental health issues... stigma still exists.

When people ask about my career, I sometimes get stigma-type questions: "How are the crazies doing?" First of all, "crazy" is a degrading, subjective term. Second of all, if we are going to use that term, aren't we all to a degree? ;)

We are imperfect people. We are bruised. We make mistakes. We hurt others - most of the time unintentionally. We lose our temper. Say things we regret. Feel lots of feelings. Panic. Worry. Have intrusive negative thoughts. And so on.

Think about it. Maybe you still remember the time you were called a bad name in 2nd grade. Or how you felt left out with your siblings. Or your parent forgot to pick you up at school. These seem little, but can trickle into all parts of life because our sense of self has been shaken in some way.

We all could use some self reflection. We all have room to grow. So, know that no one is above counseling nor has it all figured out. As soon as we start thinking we have it all together - woowee, we got something else coming for us... likely increased loneliness, stress and dissatisfaction in life.

Just something to consider. I know everyone loves reading light-hearted posts. 😉

Something special about rainy days and being in my beloved office! Peaceful. Love how much transformation takes place here.

And while I'm at it, just added an office day! Meaning, I have several new openings for new clients. Can't wait to journey with more people.

Love my work. And I realize what a gift that is.
