Hancock County Medical Mission

Hancock County Medical Mission For two weeks each February, we pack up our scrubs and head south to provide medical care to under-served people of Latin America.

We serve the poor of Latin America with surgical and medical care during our annual two-week trips. Volunteers from beautiful Hancock County on the coast of Maine, and elsewhere, lend their talents to those without access to proper medical care.

With this $2,500 gift, a life changing opportunity is afforded to a local student. The world is a better place when we all pull together. Thank you FNB!

We’re looking forward to this year’s mission trip, taking place Feb. 8-22 in a rural community of the Dominican Republic. For more information about the Hancock Medical Mission’s work, or to donate, please visit http://hcmm.homestead.com/

Bob Baker was a talented surgical technician, devoted healthcare worker, and loving friend. His presence provided a positive foundation for our mission trips and his humor and kindness wove color and warmth into the (sometimes long) days providing care to people in need. Earlier this week Bob passed away while on vacation with his wife. His absence will leave an unrepairable hole in our team and our hearts. Bob’s gift of unshakable faith and the memory of his infectious laugh are the comforting reminders of him that we will hold and honor on future mission trips.

The Hancock County Medical Mission is entering its 4th decade of serving underserved populations in Latin America. After a COVID induced pause, last year we were able to relaunch successfully. Participation is brisk this year as we again include local high school and medical students as translators and involved members. This is one of the ways we give back to our local community by providing these life changing and enriching experiences for local nurses and students who give up their vacation and leisure time to serve. Budget is high for travel, accommodations and surgical supplies. We depend solely on donations to make this happen. If you are able to help us in this in endeavor that would be great, but prayers and good wishes are appreciated also.
