There was something about feeding the starter, watching for the bubbles, judging the fermentation, studying the YouTube videos, trying a new technique…that I needed.

All of it kept my mind away from chemotherapy.
Away from the infusion center.
Away from the fatigue and the hair loss.

Sourdough became a tiny world I could control when everything else felt uncertain. It gave me something to focus on that wasn’t . In its own surprising way, it became a lifeline during an intense few months.

I never mastered . Eventually, I gave up.
But the point was never the bread.
