🦇🖍️ At Home Activity of the Week: Coffee Filter Bats! 🎨🦇
Get spooky and creative with this fun, simple DIY bat craft using coffee filters! Here’s how to make your own:
1. Lay your coffee filter flat and color it with black, green, and purple markers in random patterns. 🎨🖤💜
2. Lightly spray the filter with water and watch as the colors bleed to completely fill your coffee filter. 💦
3. Let it dry, then fold the dried filter in half (semi-circle), fold again (cone), and fold once more to form a smaller cone. 📐
4. With it folded, cut a slight curve into the rounded part of the cone, then unfold it back to a semi-circle shape. ✂️
5. Cut a 1-inch slit in the center of the open side of the semi-circle.
6. Attach a clothespin just above the slit, centering it to form "wings" on either side.
7. Finish with eyes and a toothy grin using white markers, whiteout pins, or a toothpick dipped in paint. 👀😁
Therapists: Miss Chelsea and Miss Mandy report making the bats (like the one featured in our photo) was a big hit with their students last year! It's a great way to target hand strength (squeezing the bottle) and scissor skills (cutting the filter). Color the filter on a vertical surface to incorporate shoulder stability, bilateral motor coordination, wrist extension, and grasp. Have your older kiddos compose a sentence about their bat as a writing prompt to incorporate handwriting!
These cute bats make the perfect fall decoration! 🦇🍂
