Meet our Nurses this week.

Meet Lori Owen, RN. Lori serves as our Executive Director in Emporia and El Dorado. She spends her time with her family and herd of mini cows. We asked all of our nurses a set of questions to get to know them.

1. How long have you been in nursing?
14 years

2. What made you want to become a nurse?
I experienced care while pregnant with my oldest that was, let's just say less than it should have been. I decided I could complain or I could be part of the solution. I never wanted to be a nurse but found it as my calling.

3. Who would you consider to be your hero?
That's a tough one. I would say my husband and kids. They are the most patient and supportive people ever. They just know healthcare is 24 hours a day and people need us.

4. What is one thing you love about long term care?
I was one that said I would never end up in long term care, but these residents just draw you in. We laugh and cry together. The relationships with the residents and staff are so precious.

5. If you could go anywhere, where would you go?
I would probably say Australia to see the "Bluey House". 😜 Or Hawaii to the beach.

Happy Mother's Day from all of us here at Sunflower Care Homes.

Meet our Nurses this week.

Meet our newest member of administration, Michelle Dugan, LPN. Michelle started working for us full time in January on the night shift, but was recently promoted to the title of Director of Healthcare! 🎉 She is a loving mother of 2. We asked all of our nurses a set of questions to get to know them.

1. How long have you been in nursing?
21 years

2. What made you want to become a nurse?
I fell into nursing due to having a burst appendix and had a loving nudge from my mom.

3. Who would you consider to be your hero?
My dad was always my hero and still is even though he passed away.

4. What is one thing you love about long term care?
I love long term care since we get to know our residents on more of a deeper level.

5. If you could go anywhere, where would you go?
I would love to go back to Portugal or go back in time to when my kids were little.

Meet our Nurses this week.

Meet Connie Leal, LPN. Connie works for us PRN and takes nursing call for us on the weekends. She enjoys spending time with her family, friends and dogs. We asked all of our nurses a set of questions to get to know them.

1. How long have you been in nursing?
I have had my nursing license for about 35 years.

2. What made you want to become a nurse?
When I was a kid in high school I always planned on working with animals. Shortly after I graduated high school I got a job working in the laundry room in a nursing home. I wasn't crazy about doing laundry but I really enjoyed visiting with the residents when I delivered their laundry. They would show me family pictures and just talk to me about their life. I just really like long term care. That's when I decided to become a nurse. I Was 17. First got my CNA, then my CMA and now my LPN.

3. Who would you consider to be your hero?
My hero, MY DAD. HE WAS THE GREATEST PERSON THAT WALKED THE FACE OF THIS EARTH.

4. What is one thing you love about long term care?
I have just really loved working with people.

5. If you could go anywhere, where would you go?
If I every have a chance would love to go to Alaska. I think it would be awesome. Pictures of Alaska are beautiful. And of course I love the snow. Lol. Oh yeah never forgot about animals. Love my dogs.

Nurses Day at the K was an amazing event! We joined up with nurses and administration from our sister communities in El Dorado and Baldwin City to celebrate together. It was a fun day and the Royals brought home the win!
