Okay bit of deep one - but this garbage that is being spouted across the water 🇺🇸 has me concerned for many people I know and love.

So.. here goes … read and absorb if you choose to, if you don’t that is okay… 👌🏻 I am not always ready and in the right space to go deep and meaningful on the socials either. 🤗

I’ve come to learn how this is quite an important topic and an easy yet powerful accommodation everyone can make for autistic friends, family, co-workers, well anyone really.

It actually has a far reaching impact on a persons sense of self and self esteem.. the ability to own ‘it’ and recognise every neuro type has importance rather than to see it as an all encompassing infliction can change the trajectory of a person - promise I’ve seen it first hand!

I remember at the beginning of my love for anyone autistic, walking up a hill with a friend and asking ‘with autism’ or ‘autistic’ why such the fuss?

I’ve since learned the value and importance of identify first language and the power it holds to move away from deficit based thinking.

Well, here is actually a beautifully crafted post just giving those who wish to know a bit more about the importance of Neuro affirming language and what a significant impact it can have.

Last month, discussed the key differences between compliance-based and interoception-based approaches. This conversation has so many ties to alexithymia and how our interoceptive identity develops. The more baby steps we take towards an interoception-based approach, the more we can help each person understand their own unique felt experience.
Please feel free to share it widely, hang it on your wall, use it to start important conversations about the systems shifts that lie ahead. We are in this together.
