✨Trust Your Instincts!✨

Preparing for birth isn’t just about packing your hospital bag—it’s also about feeling confident in your choices and support team. Research shows that people who feel empowered and supported, during birth, experience better outcomes and greater satisfaction with their birth experience (Hodnett et al., 2013)!

💫 Evidence-Based Tip!

Take time to assess if your provider aligns with your birth values. According to the VBAC Link AND the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), it’s NEVER too late to switch providers if you feel your needs aren’t being met. Open communication and shared decision-making are associated with more positive birth experiences (ACOG, 2020).

⭐ Pro Tip!

Write down your birth preferences and share them with your doula, supports and provider. This helps ensure everyone is on the same page and supports your ability to make informed decisions throughout your journey!

💡Remember, you are the expert on your body and your birth. Trusting your instincts and advocating for your needs can make all the difference!

⁉️ Have questions or want evidence-based resources!? Drop them in the comments! Share to help individuals find the support they deserve!

🌊Ever heard of the Cascade of Interventions?🌸

As doulas, one of our goals is to help families understand their options and feel empowered in every step of their birthing journey.

The “cascade of interventions” describes how one medical intervention can often lead to another, sometimes changing the course of your birth plan.

Swipe through this visual to learn how interventions can impact the birth process.

Knowledge is power! 💪

Every birth is unique, and sometimes interventions are necessary for safety. But being informed helps you make choices that align with your values and comfort. If you have questions or want to talk through your birth preferences, we're here to support you every step of the way.

🌟 Birth Myth Monday 🌟

🚫 Myth: If you've had a cesarean birth before, you can’t have a vaginal birth in the future.

✅ Fact: This is NOT true for everyone! Many individuals are excellent candidates for a Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC). According to evidence-based research, VBACs are safe for many people, and they come with benefits like shorter recovery times and lower risks of complications in future pregnancies.

💡 What to Know:
- The success rate for VBACs is around 60-80% for those who meet the criteria.
- Factors like the type of incision, the reason for the initial C-section, and your overall health play a role in determining if a VBAC is right for you.
- Always discuss your options with your healthcare provider to make an informed decision that aligns with your birth goals.

✨ Takeaway: Having a C-section doesn’t mean you lose the choice of how to birth in the future. Let’s bust this myth and empower you with the facts! 💪

✨ Birth Myth Monday ✨

Myth: "You can’t eat or drink during labor."

Truth: This outdated advice was based on old practices, but modern research shows that low-risk individuals can safely eat and drink during labor. Restricting food and fluids may actually leave you feeling weak and exhausted, which isn’t ideal for such an energy-intensive process!

💡 Evidence-Based Insight:
Light snacks and hydration can help keep your energy levels up during labor. Of course, it’s essential to discuss your birth plan with your care provider to ensure it aligns with your unique needs and preferences.

🌿 At Growing Warm Roots, we focus on empowering mothers with up-to-date, evidence-based information so you can make the best choices for YOUR birth journey.

🌟 Birth Myth Monday 🌟

Myth: "You have to give birth lying flat on your back."

☀️ Let’s clear this up!

While lying on your back is a common position in hospital births, it’s not your only option. Some people find that positions like squatting, hands-and-knees, or side-lying feel more comfortable and can even help labor progress by working with gravity. 🌎

💡 Here’s a tip: Chat with your birth team about what might work best for you and have them practice these positions with you. Every birth is unique, and it’s all about finding what feels right for your body!

🌳 I am here to support you with evidence-based info and personalized care to help you feel confident and prepared. 💕

🌸 Honoring the Women Behind Modern Gynecology 🌸

Much of what we know in modern gynecology was built on the sacrifices of Black women—women who were subjected to unethical practices, often without their consent, to advance medical knowledge.

🫶 Anarcha Westcott, Betsey, and Lucy were enslaved women who endured countless experimental surgeries by Dr. J. Marion Sims, the so-called "father of modern gynecology." These procedures were performed without anesthesia, and their pain was ignored in the name of progress.

🫶 Henrietta Lacks, whose cells were taken without her consent in 1951, gave the world the first immortalized human cell line, HeLa cells. Her contribution has led to groundbreaking medical advancements, from the polio vaccine to cancer research.

🗣️️The Mississippi Appendectomies represent the untold stories of Black women in the 20th century who were subjected to forced sterilization and experimental procedures under the guise of medical care.

📢Their stories are a painful reminder of the injustices that shaped medicine, but they also highlight the resilience and strength of Black women.

🌳I am committed to fostering care that is ethical, compassionate, and informed. These women’s sacrifices must not be forgotten—they inspire us to advocate for equity and respect in healthcare.

💜 Let’s honor their legacy by striving for justice and dignity in all aspects of care.

👩‍🍼Birth Myth Monday: Let's bust some common myths about childbirth!

💊Myth: "Pitocin is always necessary if labor slows"

💉Fact: Pitocin, a synthetic version of oxytocin, can be helpful tool in childbirth, but it's not always required. Like all medical interventions, it comes with benefits and risks:

✔️Pros:

●Stimulates or speeds up contractions.
●Helps reduce heavy bleeding after birth

❌️Cons:

●Contractions may feel more intense and frequent, with less rest time.
●Required continuous monitoring may limit movement or hydrotherapy (like tubs/showers).
●May increase the risk of fetal distress in some cases.

🌟Natural Oxytocin:

Your body's own oxytocin is key to childbirth and bonding:

●In Labor: Smoothly stimulates contractions.
●For Breastfeeding: Encourages milk flow.
●Emotional Bonding: Strengthens the connection with your baby.
●Stress Relief: Promotes relaxation and trust.

🧠Unlike natural oxytocin, Pitocin doesn't cross into the brain, so it doesn't support bonding, milk production or stress relief.

🌳At Growing Warm Roots, I'm here to support you with evidence-based information, so you can feel empowered in your journey.
