After more than 40 years in physical therapy, Tom Harney has built a truly special career improving the lives of his patients in Northeast Connecticut. His dedication, his heart for people, and his leadership have shaped our Putnam and Danielson locations into the practices they are today.

As Tom steps into a well-deserved retirement, we are thrilled to announce the next chapter. Kyleen Sidwell, PT, DPT is stepping into the Director role in Putnam, and Micaela Pina, PT, DPT is taking the helm in Danielson. Two incredible clinicians who have learned firsthand what it means to lead with care, energy, and purpose.

Tom, thank you for years of pouring into patients, staff, and the communities we serve. Your legacy lives on in every treatment, every milestone, and every team member you mentored along the way.

New leaders. Same great care.

Please join us in congratulating Tom, Kyleen, and Micaela on this exciting transition. We could not be more confident in the future of PTSMC. πŸ™Œ

Leadership isn't just about titles. It's about developing the skills to lead with confidence, understanding the business side of patient care, and creating opportunities for growth.

Our Leadership and Management Development Program (LMDP) is designed for physical therapists who want to expand beyond clinical excellence into leadership roles, without leaving patient care behind.

Over the course of the program, participants dive into:
βœ… Financial literacy and understanding clinic reports
βœ… Operations management and workflow optimization
βœ… Team development and leadership skills
βœ… Business acumen that supports better patient outcomes and clinic success

We believe in growing from within. When our clinicians grow, our patients and communities benefit.

You passed your boards. The transition from school to physical therapy clinic treating real people can feel overwhelming.

Documentation systems. Billing codes. Clinical decision-making without a safety net. For new grad PTs, the gap between school and confident practice can feel overwhelming.

That's exactly why mentorship matters.

Hear from Emily Pelz, PT, DPT, OCS, physical therapist at PTSMC Waterbury, on her experience with mentorship.

At PTSMC, mentorship isn't about being graded or proving yourself. It's collaborative support designed to help you become the clinician you're meant to be. You get guidance on everything from patient care to the administrative details no one warns you about in school.

You don't have to figure it out alone.

Thinking about your first PT role? Learn more about our mentorship program and open positions at ptsmc.com.

You've got this. We've got you.

April is Stress Awareness Month, and we're here with a reminder: your body doesn't have to carry the weight of every work deadline.

When you're constantly bracing against stress, your shoulders creep up, your jaw clenches, and tension becomes your baseline.

But here's the shift: not every task requires that fight-or-flight response. You can work without constantly holding tension.

🧠 Practical ways to release tension during your workday:

1️⃣ Set an hourly reminder to drop your shoulders away from your ears
2️⃣ Take 3 deep belly breaths before switching tasks
3️⃣ Stand up and stretch your neck side to side for 30 seconds
4️⃣ Notice when you're holding your breath (it's more common than you think)

Your nervous system doesn't know the difference between a looming deadline and actual danger. But you can teach it.

If workplace stress is showing up as persistent neck pain, headaches, or jaw tension, our team can help. We treat the physical manifestations of stress with manual therapy, movement strategies, and nervous system regulation techniques.

You don't have to accept tension as your new normal.

Today, on World Parkinson's Day, we're recognizing the resilience of those navigating this diagnosis and the specialized care that can help maintain independence and quality of life.

At PTSMC, several of our clinics offer LSVT BIG therapy, an evidence-based approach specifically designed for people with Parkinson's. It focuses on training bigger, more confident movements to counteract the disease's effects on mobility and daily function. While there is no cure for Parkinson's Disease, LSVT-BIG therapy can help slow down the loss of movement and improve the quality of life.

Visit ptsmc.com to learn which locations offer LSVT-BIG therapy and to schedule an evaluation.

The anxiety of not knowing when the pain would end, or how hard to push without making it worse. That uncertainty can be just as draining as the pain itself.

This is exactly why evidence-based guidance matters. Our team doesn't just treat the injury, we help you understand your recovery, pace your return to activity, and rebuild confidence in your body.

From struggling with sleep and limited movement to running 4x/week and lifting pain-free? That's what happens when specialized PT meets a structured plan.

You don't have to figure this out alone. Visit ptsmc.com to schedule an evaluation at any of our 20+ CT and MA locations.
