🧡 Meet Patricia Franklin, another Beaver Believer!! 🖤
Patricia’s OSU pride runs deep: her daughter, two sons-in-law, and grandson are all proud Beavers. While caring for her husband in hospice, Patricia was diagnosed with endometrial cancer in 2022. Thanks to early detection and a successful surgery, she’s now in surveillance and doing well.

She credits her faith, family, and friends for giving her strength every day. Her advice to others facing a serious illness:
“Treat every day as special. Cherish your loved ones, be forgiving, make new friends, and don’t be afraid to ask for help.”

Patricia sends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Wong and her WVCI care team.
We’re proud to celebrate her courage a

💚💛 Fight Like a Duck Spotlight: Bob Weiler 💛💚
Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome our "Fight Like a Duck" participant, Bob Weiler! 🦆
A Duck fan since the 1994 Rose Bowl, Bob is a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who was in disbelief this past May when a routine scan for pneumonia revealed lung cancer. 😔
With surgery scheduled for October, Bob faced his diagnosis with courage, placing his trust in his physician, oncologist, and surgeons. He credits his family, faith in God, fishing 🎣, and Duck Football 🏈 for keeping him fighting and giving him something to look forward to.
His advice to anyone facing similar adversity:
“Life is short… take advantage of the things you can do; don’t sweat the small stuff.”

Leave a message of hope for Bob below and we'll be sure he sees it!

🏈🧡 Beaver Believer Spotlight: Damon Becker
Meet Damon Becker, retired high school teacher and football coach, proud dad, and cancer survivor.
After moving to Oregon in 2013 to be closer to his son, an OSU alum, Damon was diagnosed in 2018 with B-cell lymphoma in both hips. Walking became nearly impossible. But under the care of Dr. Sharman at Willamette Valley Cancer Institute, Damon joined a clinical trial for a new chemo treatment, followed by radiation , and was declared cancer-free in July 2019!
Damon credits his recovery to faith, the incredible nurses at the chemo center, and the power of clinical trials. His advice: Don’t keep your cancer a secret. Let people support you. Stay positive. And don’t be afraid to try new treatments.
Leave him a message of hope and we'll be sure to share it with him. Go Beavs! 🧡🖤

While most breast cancers are not inherited, about 5% to 10% of breast cancers are linked to inherited gene mutations, most commonly in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes. While genetic testing isn't recommended for everyone, it is advised for some individuals with certain risk factors for genetic mutations.
