April 14, 2018 3:35AM +/- Euless dispatchers received calls about and dispatched a structure fire at Napoli's Italian Cafe in the 3000 block of Euless Blvd. Police officers arrived quickly and reported heavy smoke, and a car parked in the back, indicating someone may still be inside. Firefighters arrived shortly after and begin their search and rescue efforts. The wind was very strong, blowing the smoke from the back to the front of the store. Bedford Truck 153 and Battalion 15 responded as part of an automatic mutual aid agreement on the first alarm. Crews were unable to find anyone on the initial search and rescue, before having to exit to refill air bottles. Command requested a 2nd alarm bringing additional firefighters and apparatus from Fort Worth, Grapevine, and Haltom City. After crews put out as much fire as they could from the front, they began ventilation on the back side. Behind a vent grate that was removed, was a kitchen ventilation system hindering access. Once vented, fire was visible on the back side and attacks were made from the outside first. With the bulk of the fire knocked down, crews entered the rear of the building, and shortly afterward there was a partial collapse that struck and injured some firefighters. A mayday was called, but crews were quickly located and able to exit on their own. One firefighter was treated and released at a hospital. Once debris was cleared, firefighters were able to find a deceased victim. I apologize if I've made any mistakes in my description above or in the photo captions, and I welcome any corrections by direct message.
My thoughts and prayers are with the victim and the victim's family, as well as the employees and patrons who are grieving.
