It's hard to believe that my first television interview has already been more than 10 years ago--that's how long I've been advocating how scent can be a therapy and instrumental in helping people with dementia, such as Alzheimer's recall memories through the sense of smell.
What I saw during all of my Essential Awakenings®️ Smell and Memory sessions was that once the smell is recognized, the participants started telling their own personal stories associated with that scent, so the sensory kits not only stimulates the sense of smell (and taste) but is essentially a socialization activity.
The scents I selected out of more than 35 and included in the First Edition of Essential Awakenings®️ were Grass, Chocolate, Pineapple, Mint, Cinnamon, and Jasmine...scents that resonate with a global audience and generally have joyful memories attached.
