We know a lot of families are suddenly having to make unexpected changes to their birth plans and care, and that can feel really hard.

Our hearts are with everyone impacted, including the midwives and birth center teams who have poured so much into caring for their communities.

If you are needing support, have questions, or are looking for midwifery care and birth services, we are here and doing our best to help however we can. We serve families with locations near the city, the North Shore and surrounding suburbs, the northwest suburbs, and the South Side.

Teaching a Doulas at Home Birth course alongside has become one of the most joyful highlights of my work. I’ve taught it quite a few times now, and somehow every group manages to be equal parts deeply thoughtful and absolute chaos once the scenarios begin.

The best learning always seems to happen when we stop talking theory and start putting words into action. Suddenly everyone is navigating imaginary contractions, looking for extra towels, calling in updates, and fully stepping into the role play with the whole team of peers to cheer them on. caught some hilarious and genuinely sweet still shots of the doulas and me mid scenario, and they perfectly capture the energy of the day.

I love spending time with birth workers who care this much about showing up for families, improving outcomes, changing the landscape of birth for the better and are willing to fully commit to strengthening their skills in the process.

One of the unexpected perks of this work is getting a little glimpse into the worlds my clients love. Sometimes it’s books stacked on the nightstand, sometimes it’s music playing during a home visit, and sometimes it’s a tiny onesie in a Moses basket reminding me I’ve found my fellow nerds.

“Let the adventure begin” feels especially fitting for this little Hobbit on the way.

Happy Mother’s Day to every mother, and to all who hold motherhood in its many forms.

For those growing babies, birthing babies, feeding babies at 2 a.m., and for anyone healing, grieving, learning, longing, remembering, or loving with everything they have.

We know this day can hold joy, tenderness, ache, and complexity all at once.

Today we honor the strength, intuition, sacrifice, and tenderness that motherhood can ask of you every single day.

It is one of the greatest privileges of our work to walk beside families through pregnancy, birth, postpartum, loss, healing, and transformation.

Wishing a gentle and deeply loved Mother’s Day to all of you.

Sometimes babies just need a little more time…

There’s a reason it’s called an estimated due date. Due dates are far less exact than many people realize, and interestingly, the way we calculate them is not entirely evidence based.

What if your baby just needs a little more time?

Today we honor the hands that steady, the voices that ground, and the presence that never wavers.
Midwives show up in the quiet hours and the loud ones. They hold space, protect physiologic birth, and walk alongside families with skill, intuition, and deep respect for autonomy.
This work is not soft. It is fierce, intentional, and rooted in trust.
On International Day of the Midwife, we celebrate the care that centers you, your body, and your choices.

I went to see Dealbreaker by yesterday.

It takes a diagnosis that carries a lot of quiet stigma and turns it into something human, honest, and unexpectedly funny. I laughed more than I expected to, and still found myself pulled into some deeply vulnerable moments.

The writing is sharp, the delivery is effortless, and the balance between humor and heartache is so well done. It opens the door to conversations most people avoid and handles them with both wit and care.

As a midwife, I found it especially important to see. It speaks directly to sexual health, stigma, and how deeply shame can shape someone’s sense of self and relationships. These are conversations that come up in care more often than people realize, and this piece reflected that lived experience in a way that felt real and necessary.

They added a 5:00 PM show for a reason. It’s worth seeing. Check out Lauren‘s page for upcoming opportunities!

Nacho, the birth support cat, making a cameo next to the sweetest basket of goodies from a family I have had the honor of serving through five babies, across three households and two states!

Being invited into these spaces is honor enough. I hear “I couldn’t do this without you,” and am beyond humbled. But the truth is: You made the decisions, you chose your support team, You did the work, and you are the reason this day unfolded the way it did.

It is a privilege to walk alongside you while you do something that was always yours.

We drive A LOT for work. Home visits are a significant part of the community care model. This also comes with the inconvenience of car troubles. Occupational hazard. But don’t worry about us! Team Maitri is back on the road!
