Last day of September. Last day of Childhood Cancer Awareness month!

For those of us in the childhood cancer community…. EVERY DAY is childhood cancer day… EVERY DAY.

EVERY DAY: @47 Children are diagnosed with some form of cancer

EVERYDAY: @5 children die from cancer… that’s 1800 kids a year

The children who do survive have life long side effects including a much higher risk of developing another type of cancer; especially breast cancer.

So as the world turns pink tomorrow… which it should… just don’t forget the kids.

I wish I could sit here and post the brutal pictures of what childhood cancer looks like so people can see the harsh reality. I can’t. I don’t have many. The pictures I have were forced or taken without his knowledge.

Patrick did not want pictures taken…I told him he would want to look back and see how far he’s come….guess what? He didn’t. He doesn’t.

He looks at the positive in all of this. He doesn’t want to think about the bad or remember all the hard days. The sick days. The surgeries. He thinks about the people who showed up. The friends who have been by his side. The family who have loved on him. The strangers who pray for him.

There are the real ugly sides of pediatric cancer but there are some really bright ones too.

These are the ones he will choose to remember when this part Is over.

The texts. The calls. The love. The prayers. Find a way today to help a family going through this. That one little gesture may be the reason they choose to focus on the good today and not the bad. 🎗️💛
