A haunted house, but it’s modern motherhood.
Where the ghosts aren’t monsters hiding in the dark —
they’re dismissive doctors, outdated advice, and systems that fail mothers over and over again.

Every room filled with echoes of “you’re fine,” “your labs are normal,” “just supplement,” “it’s not the breastmilk.”

But you know better.
You feel the truth in your body.
You deserve care that listens, investigates, and honors your intuition.

👻 A haunted house, but it’s healthcare that forgot how to care.

Today we stand at a point of balance - equal day and night - before the light slowly gives way to longer evenings.

Autumn is nature’s invitation to slow down, gather what nourishes, and prepare gently for the season ahead.

For mothers in pregnancy or postpartum, this rhythm mirrors our own cycles of transition. Just as the Earth rests after harvest, your body and spirit need restoration as you nurture new life.

This season, I invite you to:
🌙 Protect your rest - lean into earlier bedtimes and cozy evening rituals
🥣 Nourish with warming, grounding meals and seasonal produce
🌾 Create simple, grounding rhythms that ease the rush of busy holidays

Eating seasonally is one of the most beautiful ways to align with nature. Foods harvested in their natural time are richer in nutrients, easier to digest, and remind us that our bodies are meant to live in rhythm with the Earth.

May this Autumn teach you to gather what sustains, release what burdens, and trust that slowing down is a sacred form of growth. 🍁

I wanted to take a moment to share a personal update with you. After much thought and reflection, I’ve made the difficult decision to temporarily pause accepting new 1:1 clients - both for breastfeeding and nutrition services - as I focus on some health issues with my youngest son.

This isn’t a decision I’ve made lightly, but it’s one I’m making to prioritize my family’s needs during this season. I’ll continue working with my current clients and will honor existing commitments.

At this time, I’m not accepting any new consults. That said, if you’re currently pregnant and hoping to establish care for lactation support postpartum, please feel free to reach out now. Depending on timing, I may be available to support you by the time your little one arrives.

In the meantime, I’m shifting my focus toward creating more digital resources and offerings to continue supporting moms & postpartum mental health. I’ll be sharing updates as new tools and content are released, and I can’t wait to share what’s coming next.

I’ll be sure to share another update once I reopen my schedule for 1:1 services. Thank you so much for your continued support, understanding, and patience - it truly means the world to me.

☀️ Summer hours are here, and with that comes a small shift in how I’ll be offering support.

Swipe to see an important update: Nourished Mothers will no longer be offering in-office appointments. Moving forward, all visits will take place in the comfort of your home or virtually, allowing for more flexibility and ease during this tender season of motherhood.

As always, I’m here to support you with care that meets you where you are 💚

From your stretching skin to your healing body, collagen plays a quiet but powerful role in every stage of motherhood. It supports your joints, helps your uterus recover, and even aids in baby’s development. ✨

In this season, your collagen needs increase — but don’t worry, boosting it doesn’t have to mean chugging powders (unless you want to). Think: bone broth, slow-cooked meats, and vitamin C-rich foods that help your body build more of its own.

That said, if you do want a high-quality, pregnancy-safe collagen powder, I’m a big fan of — it’s clean, unflavored, and easy to stir into anything from oats to smoothies. 💛

👇 Tell me — are you team bone broth or collagen powder (or both)?

Your skin, joints, uterus, and connective tissue do A LOT during pregnancy and postpartum 💪🏼 — and they all depend on collagen to function and heal.

From supporting baby’s development to helping your body recover after birth, collagen is one of those quiet heroes that doesn’t always get the spotlight... but definitely deserves it. ✨

Inside this post, I’m sharing why collagen matters so much during this season of life — plus easy, real-food ways to boost your intake (no fancy powders required, unless you want to!).

Answering one of the top questions I get in my breastfeeding consults:
“Is my baby getting too much foremilk—or not enough hindmilk?” 💭🥛

If you’ve ever worried about your baby getting “watery milk,” green poops, or not enough fat—this one’s for you. 👇

Foremilk and hindmilk aren’t two separate types of milk—they’re just terms we use to describe breastmilk at different points in a feeding. And guess what? Your body knows what it’s doing.

If your baby is feeding frequently, nursing effectively, and gaining weight well, they are getting exactly what they need. 💛

You don’t need to time feeds, stress about milk quality, or try to “fix” something that isn’t broken. Most of the time, small tweaks (like helping baby stay on one side longer) are all it takes—and only if there are signs of discomfort or slow weight gain.

✨ Trust your baby. Trust your body. Watch your baby—not the clock. ✨

Want a sneak peak into my meal plan process?

⬆️ is our dinner plan for this week!

When I meal plan, I think about:
✔️ Our weekly schedule (work, activities, busy nights, solo parenting)
✔️ A mix of protein sources (starting with what we have to save $$)
✔️ A variety of cuisines (hello taco night 🌮 & curry night 🍛)
✔️ Easy meals on our busiest nights (instant pot/crockpot = lifesaver!)
✔️ Leftovers or batch cooking for easy meals later (love freezing for later with my )

Lately, we’ve been getting the kids involved—letting them pick meals, help grocery shop, and take ownership over what’s on the menu. It’s been a game-changer for reducing picky eating!

Do you meal plan? What’s your go-to strategy? Let me know below! ⬇️✨

About Me

Hi there! My name is Kayla Thorngate and I am the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant behind Nourished Mothers. I am deeply invested in the field of women’s health and nutrition, especially as it pertains to aspects of motherhood.

My practice is built on the foundation that the health of a woman when she becomes a mother (beginning at the time of conception) can have a lifelong impact on her child’s health. I firmly believe that good health begins with how we are cared for in the womb, and good nutrition from the very beginning helps set a new life in the right direction. For that reason, I love working with women during this incredible season of life, on their journey to and through motherhood, teaching them how to nourish their own bodies and those of their families. I specialize in maternal-infant nutrition, which includes nutrition for preconception, pregnancy and postpartum, as well as while breastfeeding. As a lactation counselor, I work with new mothers to support all areas of their breastfeeding journey.

Whether you are trying to get pregnant, are in the midst of your pregnancy, or are in the first few years after giving birth, I would love to connect with you to hear your goals and the ways I can support your nutrition and health.

I look forward to coming alongside you in your journey!
