Clarity Speech & Swallowing Therapy is officially ONE 🎉

This year didn’t look loud on social media, but it looked like showing up for patients, building relationships, and growing behind the scenes. I’m proud of what’s been built so far and excited for what’s ahead.

Thank you to everyone who’s been part of this first chapter 🤍

🧠 Memory changes: Normal Aging vs. Cognitive Impairment
As we age, some memory changes are completely normal, but others may signal a deeper issue.

🧠 Me: Carefully writing a detailed AAC report, matching features to needs, justifying every detail… (4 hours and countless correspondences with the speech generating device company).
🗣️ My patient: Uses her device to say, “My washing machine has been broken since I moved in, it doesn't stop spinning.”
✨ Then tells staff — for the first time.

That’s the power of AAC. It’s not just about words.
It’s about independence, dignity, and being heard. 💬

💊 Struggling to swallow pills? You’re not alone.
Pill dysphagia is more common than you think — and it can lead to skipped medications, choking risks, and unnecessary stress.

The good news? There are strategies that can help.

✅ Posture adjustments
✅ Pill swallowing techniques
✅ Collaboration with your medical team

Swallowing therapy can make a real difference — because taking your meds shouldn’t feel like a battle.

💙 Supporting a Loved One with Aphasia 💬

Caring for someone with aphasia can be challenging — but your support makes a world of difference.

Here are a few simple ways you can help:

✅ Speak slowly and clearly
✅ Use gestures, writing, or pictures
✅ Give extra time to respond
✅ Focus on what they can do (draw, write, gesture?)
✅ Be patient even when it’s frustrating

Remember: aphasia affects language, not intellect. Your loved one is still the same person inside they just need a different path to express themselves.

If you're feeling overwhelmed, you’re not alone. Therapy can help both the person with aphasia and their caregivers feel more confident, connected, and understood.

Aphasia affects language, not intelligence. With the right tools and support, communication is still possible.

🗣️ How Can Speech Therapy Help Someone with Aphasia?

Speech therapy helps individuals with aphasia:
✅ Relearn how to express thoughts (speaking, writing)
✅ Improve understanding of language (listening, reading)
✅ Find new ways to communicate (gestures, pictures, AAC)
✅ Rebuild confidence in daily interactions
✅ Educate caregivers on how to support communication at home

Every therapy plan is personalized — because no two people with aphasia are the same.

With the right support, communication can improve. 💙

June is Aphasia & Dysphagia Awareness Month 🧠💙

Two different conditions — both life-changing and often misunderstood.

💬 Aphasia is a language disorder that affects speaking, understanding, reading, and writing — usually after a stroke or brain injury.
🍽️ Dysphagia is a swallowing disorder that can make eating and drinking difficult or unsafe.

Both can impact a person’s independence, safety, and connection with others.

As a speech-language pathologist, I help adults and children reclaim communication and safe swallowing — one step, one word, one bite at a time.

Follow along this month to learn how you can better understand and support those living with these challenges. 💙
