Darren Paul Bazilwich, age 30, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend of Fairbanks, Alaska, sadly left our world on August 16, 2025, after a life richly lived in unforgettable moments and once in a lifetime experiences. Darren was a ‘May Day’ baby, born May 1, 1995. Known for his ability to do anything he set his mind to and always being the man with a plan. He was a beacon of light and excitement for our community, he always knew how to have a good time, touching the hearts of everyone he met. Survived by his father Larry Bazilwich and mother and mother’s fiancè, Audrey Svoboda and Tim Shilling, his two sisters, Carrie Bazilwich and Roxanne Svoboda, and niece and nephew. Preceded in death by grandparents Isabel and Roger Svoboda and LaVerne and Paul Bazilwich Jr.;Darren’s memory will be a guiding star for all who knew him.
Darren grew up in Fairbanks, living the Alaskan lifestyle, hunting, fishing and sh*****ng with his family throughout the Tanana Valley, Gulkana River, and Prince William Sound. Darren was also well traveled from the West coast of the US, to Italy, and Mexico with Carrie close by as his travel companion and keeper; he always returned home to spread his smile and laughter with everyone, and regale in stories with his best friends, Audrey and Larry.
Darren was probably most renowned for his athletic ability, whether it was a hockey stick or a dirtbike, he would lead the pack. His entrepreneurial spirit gave him the ability to do anything with his hands, and more importantly his heart. He could fix just about anything, turning problems into opportunities.
Darren was an excitable, adventurous man with his own sense of style and fashion; from holey "working-on-truck" fishing sweats to Louis Vuitton. His way of life was the very definition of living life to its fullest, never having a dull moment. He was notoriously full of spirit, vigor and a kindness this world rarely sees, giving you the shirt off his back without a second thought.
In remembrance of Darren, his services will be on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at 1:00 PM held at St. Matthews Episcpal Church. Afterward, his celebration of life and Potluck (you are welcome to bring a dish) will take place at Chief David Salmon Tribal Hall at 3:00 PM, where we will honor Darren’s enduring impact on our community and our hearts.
