We're so excited and honored to be one of Golden Harvest Food Bank's newest Nourish Partners at Allendale County Hospital for all in our community. You can find Nourish boxes at the Outpatient Pharmacy (1787 Allendale-Fairfax Hwy, Fairfax) weekdays from 9am to 6pm.

NOURISH is Golden Harvest Food Bank’s clinic-based nutrition partnership, created to connect patients facing food insecurity with nutritious food and support right where they receive care.

The program began in 2020 with a simple but powerful idea: screen patients for food insecurity during routine visits and connect them to help. What we learned quickly was that referrals alone were not always enough. Transportation, time, and other barriers often stood in the way.

Today, patients who screen positive can receive nutritious, pre-packed food boxes on-site, during their visit. These boxes are built using healthy eating guidelines, with every item rated to support lower sugar, sodium, and saturated fat intake.

NOURISH is now active in clinics across Richmond and Jefferson counties in Georgia, and Allendale County in South Carolina. And now, we’re preparing to expand.

We’re opening the door for new clinic partners to bring NOURISH into their own patient care model, helping more neighbors access the food they need in a place they already trust.

Food insecurity and health are deeply connected. When we address one, we strengthen the other.

Food for Life is an award-winning nutrition education and cooking class program that provides an innovative approach to diet-related chronic diseases. Since 2001, Food for Life has been a pioneer in delivering hands-on information about the direct role of plant-based nutrition in health and disease prevention to communities around the world. Designed by physicians, nurses, and registered dietitians, Food for Life promotes healthful eating based on the latest scientific research.

Experiencing Food for Life with Chef Day, our superhero, it was such an honor to receive a blue apron. We look forward to sharing this training journey with you and bringing these amazing resources home in Allendale County.

A huge THANK YOU to Allendale County’s SCFB Young Farmers & Ranchers for their donation this week supporting the new Golden Harvest Nourish Program at Allendale County Hospital and Outpatient Retail Pharmacy! ​ 💚
Led by The Good Fruit Foundation’s ‘myGoodness in Health’, this program is sharing how community-driven kindness is transforming our local rural health with Whole Person Health Care, fostering a lasting, community-centered approach in wellness, collectively. This initiative helps provide heart-healthy Golden Harvest Nourish boxes filled with shelf stable staples like whole grains and proteins while coupled with seasonal, locally grown fruits and vegetables, easy-to-make healthy recipes, and evidence-based nutrition information, emphasizing collectively, the critical role of nutrition. By integrating "Food is Medicine," the program challenges perceptions and misunderstandings that chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes are a hopeless lifelong condition, highlighting evidence-based approaches to remission and reversal through healthy lifestyle choices. ​
Partnering with local farmers, nonprofits, food banks, and faith groups, the hospital and its outpatient pharmacy are creating a sustainable model of care that integrates clinical care with community support.​ By empowering individuals as active stewards of health, this initiative exemplifies how healthy lifestyle choices can restore health, mitigate chronic disease, and transform rural health care into an innovative and sustainable mission of partnership and healing. ​
Harvest for All is a partnership between the SCFB Young Farmers & Ranchers program and local food charities, which provide food to people in need around the state. Each year, County Farm Bureaus are encouraged to organize projects/activities that help bridge the food gap.
Thank you for this local support that is proving that even in one of our most resource-constrained counties and communities, kindness is seeding hope and cultivating sustainable good.
