A few pics from the Twilight Talk hosted by Virginia Cooperative Extension Master Gardener Program at Re*****on Community Garden yesterday. Stephanie Ramirez, LCSW and horticultural therapist and owner of Reach for Growth LLC, led an excellent presentation on the benefits of interacting with plants and nature for mental wellness—our favorite being “peaceful abiding.” Thank you to all who came out! �����

In Celebration of Mental Health Awareness Month, Master Gardeners of Fauquier and Rappahannock Counties, Mental Health Association of Fauquier County and Re*****on Community Garden have invited Reach For Growth to talk about how horticultural activities can foster everyday wellness, especially as it relates to mental and emotional health. This event will be in Re*****on, Virginia. DM us for the details!

Youth who rarely engage with living plants found themselves enjoying a full sensory experience in the garden today. Their curiosity was sparked by the sight of strawberries, the smell of chocolate daisies, and the taste of fresh cilantro. Their eyes widened at the sight of it all and a smile crossed their faces. It's those little moments where depression seems to lift, even if it's just for a moment 🍓🍓

We partnered with Fauquier & Rappahannock County Master Gardeners and .cis to provide CASA volunteers with a space to learn about the use of therapeutic horticulture. We also had a rich discussion about creating trauma-informed spaces for kiddos who are living with the effects of abuse and neglect. What we learned is that even in the darkest parts of their lives, their roots can lengthen, their leaves can brighten and their beauty can awaken. A source of light and a seed of hope is all that is needed to get growing ❤️
