Merilee's March for Mental Wellness

Comments

Lots of great events going on this weekend in the Rochester area! Two that we encourage you to check out are the Food truck rodeo & marketplace to Stop Bullying organized by Merilee's March for Mental Wellness, and the KiteFlite Parade, Festival, and Expo 2018 organized by AutismUp. Both events take place on Saturday the 18th, are family-friendly and free to attend, and are opportunities to support great local causes.
We have over 30 vendors, multiple food trucks, face painting, bounce house, and princess and super hero appearances so far! Please share and spread the word for this great cause!
There will be information about this year's event coming soon. Please stay tuned! Thanks!
Have you ever heard military veterans doing poetry? Well check out this TEDX show by the veteran performance poetry group The Combat Hippies, a shortened version of our full performance. Please show your support by checking this out and sharing it on your own social media outlets!

It's a little far from Sydney, however my thoughts go on your walks
Today I think I’ll laugh a lot
I might even lose the plot
Perhaps a coffee or pot of tea
A friendly nod to a passing bee
A magpie’s song would be quite nice
A tiny squeak from the local mice
I might just sit and think awhile
Allow myself a gentle smile.
Maree de Suza
My family and I organize a charity event each year in Fairport in memory of my loving mother. She was 52 when she lost her lifetime battle with depression Dec. 8, 2009. We must do all we can to help others so they can see mental illness is treatable, and it is possible to keep families from feeling the pain we've had to deal with since. The event is called Merilee's Morning March for Mental Wellness, and this year's walk will take place May 18. This is an issue that needs more attention. 13WHAM-TV does an outstanding job, but more can and needs to be done. Please consider joining us or donating to the cause. Registration is free online at http://bit.ly/ZxTkFc. All donations are tax-deductible & go directly to the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention - Western NY Chapter.
I really enjoyed the walk. It is gratifying to know so many people are raising awareness of su***de prevention.
I saw your post on the Bully FB page and I just wanted to send a quick note. I am a PhD student studying how we can get more BYSTANDERS to become UPSTANDERS, especially through the media. I've released a survey for people who have seen the Bully movie. It's approved for minors (with parental permission) and adults, is completely anonymous, and online. You can take it here:

http://littleurl.info/ctz

I hope you consider taking my survey and asking anyone you know who has seen this film to take it too. I've actually gotten to meet and discuss with Lee Hirsch the survey, and they've actually posted it on their page and Twitter account.

Thanks in advance for at least reading and for participating in this national conversation!

Merilee's family and friends are grateful for the support of so many over the past decade in raising awareness and funds to combat the su***de epidemic that is shattering lives. An event has not been planned for this summer, but efforts will be renewed shortly to raise enough additional funds to complete our goal to bring effective programming to area schools to stop bullying and increase mental health among our youth. Watch for details soon.

Today is Merilee Chenelly's birthday. This event was created in her memory in 2010, a year after her death, because her family and friends wanted to make something positive out of tragedy. We are eternally grateful to the many who have helped that become a reality! Today we celebrate a life cut horribly short by depression, inadequate mental health care and a stigma keeping those in need from seeking help. We hope you will join us May 15 for the 2016 Merilee's March for Mental Wellness.
