OR....how about not use it at all? A big step in the right direction, Missouri, but it shouldn't even be used as a supplemental option! "Balanced Literacy", "Whole Language", "cueing systems"...however you want to disguise it...

"Look at the picture and guess what the words say" should never be uttered when teaching a child how to read.

"We’ve come to the realization that phonics is crucial,” Lewis said. “The three cueing system, when used as the primary source, evidence shows a decrease in the amount of learning that occurs, and for that reason, we want to use it less.”

Emmanuel Christian School has an incredible group of teachers and staff! I had the privilege of spending the day with them, teaching them about dyslexia and West Virginia House Bill 3035! The dyslexia sections and articles in this new legislation are about to bring more resources and awareness for so many WV students!

Once we know better, we can do better!
