They named her wicked, they painted her vile,
They cursed her with hatred, they spat on her smile,
Yet the truth in her eyes burns away their disguise...
The witch is not wicked, she’s wise.
She gathers the herbs that the earth freely gave,
She speaks with the spirits, she sings to the grave,
Her power’s in balance, her will a steel vise...
The witch is not wicked, she’s wise.
By moonlight she dances, by fire she prays,
She walks in the old ones’ mysterious ways,
Her soul is a temple they cannot despise...
The witch is not wicked, she’s wise.
They burn her in stories, they bind her in chains,
But ashes birth forests, and blood seeds the plains,
From ruin she rises, from silence she cries...
The witch is not wicked, she’s wise.
Her wisdom’s rebellion, her laughter’s a spell,
She thrives in the places they wanted to quell,
The storm is her ally, the stars are her guide...
The witch is not wicked, she’s wise.
She walks through the ruins they built out of hate,
Her spirit unbroken, her power innate.
Her cauldron is courage, her ways never die...
The witch is not wicked, she’s wise.
She is thunder and silence, the wound and the cure,
The voice of the voiceless, relentless and pure.
Unfettered, unyielding, her spirit will rise...
The witch is not wicked, she’s wise.

A Note from the Author:
This poem just hit me suddenly, as rhymes usually do, the rhythm almost fully formed. Then it got me thinking, "Heck, we can be a bit wicked at times!" But.... the poem is really about the true meaning of the word "witch," which is so much more than what the stories say.
Another Note:
I write this from my perspective as a woman witch... because writing is always personal, especially poetry. But... the message is universal. 𝗧𝗼 𝗺𝘆 𝗯𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗿𝗮𝗳𝘁, I see you and honor your path. May the wisdom in these lines resonate with you all.
