[06/02/20]   A Message on the George Floyd Tragedy

We, the members of the NWA Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Council stand in unison with our brothers and sisters of all races as we mourn the injustice and killing of George Floyd.

We ask all of our brothers and sisters to speak out about this injustice that occurs with black and brown people whether it is COVID -19 or the senseless killings of African American men and women.

"There comes a time when silence is betrayal." "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." "In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends." "Only in the darkness can you see the stars." Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt

On this day in 1968, Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated.

He led a national cry for change and equality with a message that lives on and inspires today.

Lester Holt reflects on his legacy in this video from 2018.

Today is the anniversary of Dr. King's assassination.
Let us pause and remember him as well as what he stood for. There are many speeches and quotes from Dr. King that we, as a community, have reflected on. As we are navigating this current climate, please cogitate on the following quote.

"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy" - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

#OnThisDay in 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, the most prominent leader and advocate of the Civil Rights Movement, was assassinated at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee, the current home of the National Civil Rights Museum. He was 39 years old.
