Adriana U. Stacey, MD Psychiatrist. Mom of 4. Trying to save our children and teens from smartphones.

After a great deal of reflection, I have made the difficult decision to close my medical practice and step away for a period of time. As previously announced, the last day for Fayetteville Psychiatry will be March 30, 2026.

Recently, our family experienced the heartbreaking loss of our teenage daughter, Mary Virginia, due to complications from influenza. As you can imagine, this has been an unimaginable time for us, and I need to devote my time and energy to being with my family and beginning the long process of healing.

Serving this community and caring for my patients has been one of the greatest honors of my life. I am deeply grateful for the trust so many of you placed in me over the years.

For those who have asked how they can support us, I am sharing the video of my daughter’s eulogy below. She was an extraordinary young woman, and speaking about her was one small way to honor the light she brought into our lives.

Thank you for your kindness, understanding, and prayers during this difficult time.

Such a loss for the field of psychiatry and for humanity.

Our community mourns the loss of Nolan Williams, MD, professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences. Williams was known for pioneering fast-acting treatments for severe mental health conditions, including rapid transcranial magnetic brain stimulation for depression and ibogaine therapy for PTSD.

I am excited to speak at the Book 2.0 conference this coming week in Lisbon, Portugal. Everyone knows that books 📚 are my favorite, and we all know that once kids get smartphones, they significantly reduce the amount of time they spend reading. Let’s chat about the dangers of toxic screens and the power of a good book! ScreenStrong

📅 On September 4th, Adriana Stacey, board-certified psychiatrist and medical advisor for ScreenStrong, will explore how the rise of social media, video games, and smartphones impacts children’s development, literacy 📚, and family relationships — and what families can do to reclaim their children from problematic screen use.

This session offers evidence-based strategies to:
• Replace toxic screen habits with enriching activities
• Strengthen family bonds 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦
• Cultivate curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning

Attendees will gain practical tools to help children thrive in a digital world while keeping books, reading, and real-life connections at the center of their lives.
