Another 18 hours learning valuable usable massage techniques . John Ray never disappoints!
I just finished another one of John Ray’s wonderful classes. Muscle Anatomy and Assessment. Great refresher class and information to help assist my clients. Thank you so much John
I'm looking forward to the Direct-Indirect Technique class for Upper and Lower Back, Hips, and Legs in Fayetteville on September 8-9. Hopefully, it will be a lot warmer by then! This class provides real tools that you can use right away in your practice: 18 CEUs approved by the Arkansas DoH and the NCBTMB. To register and get more information, click on the class link or call 800-584-1562. Here are a few of the many evaluations from therapists who've taken and enjoyed this class. See more on the ROLMT website and the rayoflightmassagetraining page: “Excellent experience. John has a natural talent for teaching in a way that is immediately understandable and inspiring. John was helpful, friendly, & charming…very approachable. I look forward to attending more of his classes.” (Quinn) “I loved this class and look forward to future classes. Great confirmation on many issues as well as new stuff to use in therapy. I liked that the class was very detailed, the instructor walked around to instruct on sessions and assisted to guide you in the right direction.” (Melissa) “I loved using deeper pressure without over stressing the body. You made the class both insightful and beneficial, very informative. Thank you for letting me be a part of it.” (Jennifer) “John Ray lectures in such a way that makes understanding and remembering easier. I really enjoyed the hands on work.” (Beverly) “John Ray has a gift for teaching. He did an awesome job, I like all the things that were taught.” (Stormi)
Thoroughly enjoyed the class I took this weekend in LR!!! Great information

Ray of Light Training Online Courses

I'm grateful for my students! I'll tell you why. Yesterday, my office was inspected. Brian from the Department of Health came in, and he was friendly and professional as always. He inspected the usual things - license, sanitation, bathrooms, etc. Everything passed with flying colors. Yay! But...

After he handed me my copy of the report and started walking toward the door, he stopped and said, "You know, you may never hear this from anyone else, but I thought I'd mention it to you." I was unsure of what he was talking about, but I listened attentively.

He continued, "We get lots of great comments about your classes. In fact, over the last few years we've had several therapists tell us they'd rather pay the late fee for license renewal and take one of your classes than take another class that would allow them to renew on time without a late fee. That says a lot about your classes."

I thanked Brian for taking the time to tell me that, and he went on to his way to his next appointment. It's wonderful to get good feedback about the Ray of Light Training classes, but I had no idea that therapists were willing to pay late fees (pre-covid, of course) just to take them.

The good news is that most of the ROLMT Online Courses are a series of short videos from my actual classes, focusing on techniques and Tools You Can Actually Use in your massage sessions. The therapist and client feedback over the years has been awesome!

Many therapists have already taken advantage of our heavily discounted bundles of 18-CEU online courses for license renewal and upgrade to MMT or MTI. The discount will continue as long as the Department of Health continues to allow us to use home study classes for that.

Yes, I am grateful for my students! And so much more. They say that gratitude is one of the most powerful ways to stay mentally and emotionally healthy during challenging times. What are you grateful for these days? Let me know in the comments below.

Stay well,
John

Online Courses – ROLMT Online Courses

I've decided to cancel my remaining live classes through the rest of 2020 and focus on our Online Courses. We've received great feedback from the many therapists that have been taking these classes. Several have said that the ROLT online courses are so 'full of life', because the professionally-produced videos help you feel like you're right there in the live class.

I know that some instructors are doing live classes, and if they feel like they can do that while maintaining health and safety, that is their decision, of course. In March, I cancelled all my spring and summer classes due to covid, and I haven't seen the situation get any better yet. For me, I don't feel like I can maintain health and safety for my students, their clients, and their families, while participating in bodywork classes at this time.

It was a tough decision for me. Those of you who have been in my classes know how much I love to teach and how much I enjoy being with you and sharing these wonderful techniques.

Since I have someone in my household whose immune system has been compromised because of another condition in recent months, I have an even stronger reason to be extra careful.

The good news about the online courses is that the Arkansas Department of Health has extended the deadline to get all your CEUs from them to the end of the year. This includes bodywork technique classes, such as the Direct-Indirect Technique and Cranial-Sacral Therapy classes. You can use these online courses for license renewal AND for upgrade to Master Massage Therapist (MMT) or Massage Therapy Instructor (MTI).

Many therapists have already taken advantage of the deeply discounted Ray of Light Training online course bundles. If you want to expand your toolbox with excellent proven techniques, this is a great way to get CEUs and professional bodywork training without putting yourself and your loved ones at risk. And the course videos will be available to you long afterwards if you want to revisit specific techniques.

You can register on our secure website here (or by calling me at 800-584-1562):

Here's some recent feedback we received from therapists who've taken these online classes:
"The course information was great!! The videos were presented well and the information was in digestible chunks! I will be taking more of your classes that’s for sure!" - Tammy

"I thoroughly enjoyed the course and that I can access it online for future reference. I thank you. Your course was so professionally done and you are totally photogenic, which keeps us from being bored. :-)" - Karen

"I’m really enjoying your classes. It helped to see the videos." - Debbie

Great news! I received confirmation today from the Department of Health that they have extended the deadline to get CEUs using online courses to December 31st. Yay!

I would love to have given you this news earlier, but the wheels of government offices often work very slowly. I only found out after many phone calls and emails over the past few weeks. (Thanks, Donna, for posting yesterday.)

Many of my MT students that have taken advantage of the deeply discounted Ray of Light Training online course bundles have been frantically trying to finish their courses by today July 31st, the previous DOH deadline. Now they (and you) can breathe easier!

If you want to expand your toolbox with excellent proven techniques, or if you want to upgrade to MMT or MTI, this is an excellent opportunity! The ROLT course bundles are heavily discounted for licensed therapists for a limited time. And they are approved by the Arkansas DOH and the NCBTMB.

This is an excellent way to get CEUs and professional bodywork training in your own home at your own speed. And the course videos will be available to you long afterwards. You can register on our secure website here or by calling me at 800-584-1562:
https://roltraining.com/product-category/courses/

Each ROLMT Online Course includes several short videos where you feel like you're sitting in the class. In fact, most of them were professionally filmed in actual classes. You can watch them wherever you are on any device that accesses the internet. And you can go back and view them whenever you want.

Here's some feedback I received this morning from a therapist in Benton:
"Loved the course! Already putting a lot of it to use. I've also been incorporating the techniques into my sessions and have gotten some great results with that. Look forward to another class from you soon!"

If you have any questions, just let me know.

I don't know about you, but when I ask my clients what's going on when they come into the office, I expect to hear about their back, their neck, their knee, some physical problem. But these days when I ask that question, I often get answers like, "I've been kind of depressed." I've heard that so many times lately. Have you?

I'm only working a couple of afternoons a week on clients that I know well and have been following the covid precautions carefully wherever they go. Everybody else, I refer out. But some of the therapists I usually refer people to are not working. I understand! It's challenging to know what's best to do in this pandemic environment. There is a lot of conflicting guidance.

Meanwhile, people are hurting - in more ways than one. When my clients walk out the door feeling wonderful, both physically and mentally/emotionally, it gives me a feeling of satisfaction. And I'm glad I made the effort to come into the office and work on them, even with the masks, the intense air filtration, and the increased sanitization.

But I have the luxury of picking my clients carefully and limiting my office hours. My landlord is only charging half rent. And I don't need to take everyone that comes along, especially if I don't think they're covid-careful. I know that a lot of other therapists don't have that luxury. I understand! I've been there before.

It's a challenging situation in so many ways. One thing I wrestle with is wondering if I should stop working on clients. Then I could put my focus on my training, writing, and music projects. But I know that my clients depend on me to be there. Meanwhile, there are many less therapists available than the need/demand these days. This shortage of therapists actually existed well before the pandemic started for several reasons. The pandemic has made it much worse.

I don't have the perfect answer to all these challenges. Everyone has to do what seems appropriate for them and their loved ones in this situation. I hope that you are staying healthy and finding some happiness every day, even in the little things. I write this as I watch the birds and hummingbirds feeding on the feeders outside my window. Focusing on little joys each day helps me to stay grateful within the chaos.

On another more business-oriented note, if you purchased any of our online courses, remember to complete them well before July 31 if you want to use those CEUs toward your next license renewal or to upgrade to MMT or MTI. That's when the current 'health emergency' is set to end. The governor may extend it again, given the spike in cases around the state, but we can't predict that he will do that.

And you may want to finish your courses before the website servers are hammered by those waiting until the last day. As always, if you need help printing your CE certificates, just contact me. I can see your progress on each course and your quiz scores via my portal to the website, so it's easy for me to verify which courses you've completed and print the certificates. If you have any questions, just let me know.

If you haven't purchased your online courses (or DVD courses) yet, this is your best opportunity. The courses are still heavily discounted to licensed therapists. It's an excellent way to get CEUs and professional bodywork training without putting yourself and loved ones at risk. And the courses will be available to you long after the health emergency is over. 21 ways to reduce your Alzheimer's risk, backed by research

Very interesting meta-analysis of 395 studies involving Alzheimer's patients. That's a lot of studies! They documented the most successful ways to avoid or prevent Alzheimer's. Since my mother and her siblings all had this disease, it's something I've researched a bit. They all smoked their entire adult life, which is one of the risk factors. Re me, I've never smoked cigarettes. In this analysis, they go into nutritional factors such as vitamin B-complex and Omega fatty acids. But the top 10 ways they found to prevent onset of Alzheimer's are:

• Keeping blood sugars and weight in check to avoid diabetes
• Maintaining weight at a healthy level, typically below a body mass index (BMI) of 25
• Obtaining as much education as possible in early life
• Avoiding head trauma (such as concussions)
• Staying cognitively active by reading and learning new things
• Avoiding or managing depression
• Managing bad stress that raises cortisol levels
• Treating "orthostatic hypotension" when you regularly feel light headed or dizzy when standing up from sitting
• Keeping blood pressure under control in midlife
• Avoiding high levels of homocysteine, an amino acid that can contribute to blood clots in your blood vessels and artery damage.

cnn.com There are 21 ways to reduce your risk of developing Alzheimer's, according to a new study published Monday in the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery & Psychiatry.

Could CranioSacral Therapy Help Treat Dementia & Alzheimer’s Disease?

Since CST helps optimize the flow of cerbrospinal fluid within and around the brain and the spinal cord, it can help in getting nutrients to brain cells and in removing waste products. This can help free up (or avoid) those "tangles" and plaques that often show up in Alzheimer's and other dementia patients. There are lots of studies showing the benefits of CST for elderly folks, but there are only a few that looked at its effect on dementia. The results are promising, though more studies are needed.

Sometimes, it's hard to get funding for such studies in comparison to a drug that a pharma company wants to patent and sell. Unfortunately, there are no drugs that heal dementia. There are lots of drugs used for dementia, and they "think" they might slow down the progression. But none of them help reverse the symptoms. I've studied this first-hand, since my mother lived with Alzheimer's for 20 years. I asked a neurologist to confirm this, and he did so without reservation. Perhaps, it's time to focus on modalities like CST to help people with these conditions.
