🌱 Food is Medicine – Especially for Growing Kids

At our Centre, we believe one of the most powerful prescriptions doesn’t come in a bottle – it comes on a plate.

Children’s bodies and brains are constantly developing, and the nutrients they receive now can shape their lifelong health. Whole, colorful, nutrient-rich foods can:

Strengthen immunity and help fight infections naturally 🥦🍊

Support healthy brain function, focus, and learning 🫐🥚

Promote strong bones, muscles, and growth 🥛🥬

Reduce risk of chronic conditions later in life 🥑🌽

We work closely with families to help make food a tool for prevention and healing. Whether your child is facing allergies, digestive issues, ADHD, or simply needs a nutrition boost, we help you build a plan that’s practical, delicious, and nourishing.

Because when we treat food as medicine, we’re giving kids the best foundation for a lifetime of health. 💚

A New Step Forward: Folate Receptor Alpha Autoantibody Testing Now Available for Children with PANS/PANDAS!

At The Alexandre Centre for Children's Health our mission is rooted in compassion, healing, and the belief that every child deserves a chance to thrive.

As part of our ongoing commitment to support families facing complex medical challenges, we’re proud to announce that we now offer Folate Receptor Alpha Autoantibody Testing for children suffering from long-term symptoms related to PANS (Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome) and PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections).

What Are PANS and PANDAS?

PANS and PANDAS are pediatric neuroimmune conditions that can cause a sudden and dramatic shift in a child’s mental, emotional, and physical health. Often misdiagnosed or misunderstood, these disorders are believed to be triggered by an abnormal immune response to infections—especially streptococcal bacteria in the case of PANDAS.

Common symptoms may include:

Abrupt onset of obsessive-compulsive behaviors

Motor or vocal tics

Anxiety, aggression, or depression

Sensory sensitivities

Sleep disturbances

Urinary frequency

Severe food restriction

Sudden regression in academic or social abilities

These symptoms can appear almost overnight, leaving families searching for answers and effective care.

The Role of Folate Receptor Alpha Autoantibodies
emerging research has identified the presence of Folate Receptor Alpha Autoantibodies in many children affected by PANS/PANDAS. These autoantibodies interfere with the transport of folate into the brain, which is essential for neurological development and immune regulation.

Testing for these autoantibodies provides valuable insight into potential immune system dysfunction that may be contributing to a child’s symptoms. Identifying their presence can help guide more personalized, targeted interventions and nutritional support—bringing families closer to the answers they’ve been seeking.
