Feeling incredibly grateful after returning from another medical mission trip to Guatemala 🇬🇹

This experience was truly rewarding in every way. It was an honor to give back to such a welcoming community and provide care to individuals who otherwise have limited access to healthcare. Through podiatry, we were able to relieve pain, restore comfort, and help patients get back on their feet, literally 😆💉🩼🚑👨‍⚕️.

Moments like these are a powerful reminder of why we do what we do. The resilience, gratitude, and kindness we encountered will stay with me long after this trip.

Thank you to all of my staff, the Guatemalan providers, and faculty at SIUE who supported this mission and made it possible. Looking forward to continuing this work and making a difference where it’s needed most.

September is Su***de Prevention Month — a time to raise awareness and discuss this highly stigmatized topic. Suicidal thoughts, much like mental health conditions, can affect anyone regardless of age, gender or background.

At the request of several Officers, Chief Murphy allowed the optional / individual purchase for any Officer wishing to wear our newly designed and approved, “Su***de Awareness” badge…..(manufacture delay hence the late in the month post). Whether in their personal lives or in their professional roles, many of our Officers have been affected by su***de.

Today is Maternal Health Awareness Day. While many women experience sore feet during their pregnancy, thankfully, many home remedies are available to help alleviate foot pain. Elevate feet up whenever possible, stretch legs frequently, wear wide comfortable shoes and do not cross legs when sitting to avoid swelling. Stretch daily in the morning and before and after any exercise, do not go barefoot and wear supportive low-heeled shoes to prevent arch pain. Give your feet a break - wear wider shoes during the last trimester of pregnancy to avoid ingrown toenails and tight shoes.
