this week goes out to our guy Rob! 🔥

Rob is a Fitchburg Firefighter and relies on his body to keep our community safe. He had been dealing with some chronic low back pain that was stopping him from safely participating in his chosen activities of CrossFit and Jiu-jitsu.

After trying self management and working with others in the area with little success, he gave us a call and is now back to lifting heavy and rolling up to 3 times a week!! He continues to push himself and keep his body feeling well with regular check ins and is making great progress towards his long term goals. Keep pushing Rob, you’re a true warrior!

If you or someone you know is struggling with pain, send a DM today to ask about how we can help!

Here are three examples of the power of sleep from David’s perspective:

“The first is yesterday, when I had slept poorly for 2-3 nights in a row. Training readiness (whatever that means) was low, but more importantly was how I felt: run down, more stressed, and having trouble with my ability to focus.

The next example is from today when I finally got “caught up” with a good night’s rest. Notice that training readiness score and how it didn’t skyrocket as much as you might expect. The cumulative effect of sleep matters more than one good night in the middle of a crappy week. (Hint: consistently being good matters more than being amazing one time in your sleep, diet, and exercise)

Finally, an example where sleep had been more consistent and for appropriate durations. Still not amazing, as sleep is the area I struggle the most with, but far more ready for the challenges of the day and particularly the gym.”

If your sleep, and often by extension your stress, is not well managed, your gains will suffer and you are more likely to be injured or feel your pain more instensely. If you are struggling in these areas and want to know more, send us a DM so we can talk!

goes to our own crew and our good friend Audra at Autonomy Pelvic Health.

At our most recent staff meeting we educated each other on modalities that help our patients and clients perform well, such as body tempering and dry needling. Then, we learned from Audra about how she works with her patients with back pain and when it might be appropriate to refer to a pelvic therapist even when leaking or other common symptoms aren’t present.

Collaboration helps both patients and clinicians get improved outcomes and maximize the experience for all!

Our good friends at Fitness Concepts Health Club and CrossFit 696 hosted us for a quick demo of our newest service, Integrative Dry Needling. This one was specific to staff and coaches to help them know when and why we use it, and how to talk to their clients about it.

Coach Chris offered to be evaluated and needled for some adductor pain at the bottom of his squat. With some immediate relief in an unloaded squat, next steps would be to load the bar up and see what we get. This is an example of helping performance through pain relief and modulation of the central nervous system, one of the best parts of this type of needling!

A point of emphasis here is Coach Chris has his nutrition, sleep, and exercise routine otherwise dialed in. This adjunct can help in that context, but we absolutely love to follow this up with movement that is relevant to the athlete!

Stay tuned for a workshop coming soon to members to give a more formal presentation and another demonstration of what needling is and how it works! If you can’t wait until then, reach out today with questions or to schedule!
