Our team is the lifeblood of our facility, and they’re the engine that keeps us running and delivers the best health care in Clay County! 🏆

Yesterday, we recognized 46 health care heroes representing 18 departments and more than 500 years of collective service at our Service Awards Breakfast. There really aren’t words to capture their contributions, but suffice it to say that they consistently put service over self and are more than worthy of the recognition! 💙

Please join us in saying thank you and congratulations to all the honorees in the comments! 🎉

Not a day goes by that we don't find ourselves appreciating all of the health care heroes who go the extra mile for our patients and our community! We're a tight-knit bunch, so we got together last week to celebrate every single person who helps our facility provide top-notch health care. We had leadership serving up food, games for everyone, and the feeling of renewal that only comes with the onset of spring! 🌻 💙

In honor of , we’re featuring Dr. Lindsay Lindsey with North Florida Surgeons. As a General Surgeon at Baptist Medical Center Clay, Dr. Lindsey, embodies everything you’d want in a surgeon. She’s immensely talented and always puts patients first, so we thought we’d ask her a few questions so you can get to know her better! 💙 🩺

Q: When did you begin practicing medicine and how long have you been affiliated with Baptist Health?

A: I began practicing as an attending general surgeon out of residency training in 2023, which is also when I began my affiliation with Baptist Health.

Q: How would you describe your specific field of practice to a patient?

A: I often tell patients that I operate “from the neck to the knees” as a true bread-and-butter general surgeon. I most commonly perform minimally invasive robotic abdominal surgeries such as gallbladder removal, hernia repair and bowel surgery as well as breast cancer surgery and removal of lumps and bumps.

Q: What drove your passion for medicine and led you to become a doctor?

A: I knew I wanted to be a doctor from a very young age and specifically knew I would be a surgeon in high school. I come from a family with a heavy interest in the visual arts and participated in one of the nation’s top high school art programs. While sculpting a girl’s face with clay, I realized I could translate the three-dimensional skills of sculpting into surgical skills. I then went on to obtain my undergraduate degree in Sculpture with an additional focus of biology and the prerequisites needed to enter medical school with the plan to become a surgeon.

Q: What do you enjoy most about being a physician?

A: I am very blessed to be in a field where I am often able to definitively treat a patient’s problem or illness. The satisfaction of knowing that a patient can walk away with a significant improvement in their life is one of my favorite parts of being a surgeon in particular.

Q: What is the most significant thing you’ve learned about caring for patients and the impact you have on their health?

A: One of the parts of my job that I find most fulfilling is taking the time to truly try to help a patient understand what is happening through detailed discussions, drawing pictures (I have to use that art degree somehow!), walking through imaging in the room, showing photos from their operation, and making sure I know they have a grasp on what is happening to them. Not only does this allow the patient to feel more confident about my care but also their entire health care journey. I cannot imagine how stressful it must be to walk through a complicated medical diagnosis with no medical background and I feel that it is my duty to make sure I can help guide this process.

Q: What does being a physician mean to you and have your feelings about this evolved over the years?

A: Like most physicians, I became a doctor to help people, and despite the multifaceted challenges that come with being a doctor, this has never changed.

Thank you for taking such great care of our community, Dr. Lindsey. Let's hear it for her in the comments! 🎉

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, so we teamed up with Life Flight Jacksonville, Clay County Fire Rescue and Clay County Sheriff's Office, Florida, to give students at Ridgeview High School and Clay County High School a powerful look at the real dangers of distracted driving.

Through the LifeFlight Experience, students heard directly from first responders, medical professionals, and law enforcement about the real-life impact of distracted driving, speeding, and impaired driving and the importance of making safe choices behind the wheel. From powerful firsthand stories to a live simulated crash scene and extrication, this experience brought critical lessons to life in a way that goes far beyond the classroom.

We’re committed to keeping this community safe, and we know this demonstration made an impact on these kids!

New Hospital Coming 2022

More than expert medical care, the new hospital will serve as a place for wellness, education and healing

January 22, 2020

To meet the growing need for health care services in Clay County, Baptist Health is planning to build a full-service hospital on its existing Baptist Clay Medical Campus on Fleming Island. Groundbreaking will occur in the spring of 2020, with the hospital opening planned for early 2022.

The 300,000-square-foot, full-service hospital will open with 100 beds, including women’s services and enhanced cardiology services. The hospital will be designed with modern features, including placing diagnostic equipment near the ICU for patients who need it the most, and corridors designed with calming LED lighting, and centralized staff services to minimize noise.
