“Compassion is not complete if it does not include one’s self.” Allan Lokos This quote allowed me to create space in my busy mind. There was a moment of pause where I chose to take some intentional breaths and released what was no longer serving me. The thoughts came back quickly; however, I found more peace.

As many of you know I am an advocate for children and mental health. In my classroom I have a sensory space for students who need emotional regulation. Things not without intentional teaching. I have a sensory intervention group and teach mindfulness and the science behind it in 5th and 6th grade classes. Additionally, I have a peer to peer group where our peers support friendship, kindness, and support to those who do not always pick up on social cues. These peers step up to help lowers elementary students by going into classes and leading mindfulness. It has been a huge success! This year I am looking to expand my groups and the accessibility to tools to help them. If you are able to consider purchasing an item from my wish list I would truly appreciate it! I know my students would appreciate it as well. Some of the items are tools to help teach the sensory regulation and social cues others are to support fundraising for the program. If you have any questions or curiosities please let me know. I love to talk about it! ❤️
Much love and gratitude!!!

While being comfortable with be uncomfortable it’s important to acknowledge that simplicity can often bring ease. When we are in discomfort we often over complicate things. Our brains are designed to protect us when we are uncomfortable and so the simpler we keep and live our lives, the more we can sit in the discomfort with ease.
Why?
It is when we are in discomfort that we grow and learn. Set yourself up to learn. Simplify your space. Release what no longer serves you. Then sit with the discomfort of what’s left. Give yourself the space to heal and find comfort in that.

Being in physical comfort is important to feel. When conditions are not favorable for this, your mind can hyper focus on discomfort, taking your attention away from your task. The challenges is the comfort you need may not be what others need.
With the change in temperature, our building switches from heat to air, understandably. However, my room becomes an ice box. I do not have the same amount of body heat in the room. I dress in layers because I am also in other rooms. Meanwhile my winter clothes do not keep me warm enough in my room. This often takes my attention away from what I need to do. It also impacts the students that come in my room.
This is the way it is. So how do you move past physical discomfort? I focus on taking slow deep breaths and remind myself that this is temporary. I also move around as much as possible. But sometimes you’re limited, so breathe… and if you are able a hot cup of tea is always helpful.
