📚The back to school season isn't only stressful for kids - it can also be overwhelming for parents too, especially those navigating recovery. As routines shift and responsibilities pile up, it’s essential to find time for self-care and emotional wellness.☀️

We’ve put together a list of simple, grounding activities to help you recharge and stay centered — whether you're a parent in recovery or simply feeling the weight of seasonal stress.💚

💡To learn more about how you can take time to reset, check out our blog article "The Reset Month: Why August is the Perfect Time to Realign in Recovery." https://www.brightviewhealth.com/latest-updates/why-august-is-the-perfect-time-to-realign-in-recovery/

Today is about protecting our community. Fentanyl is a reality we can't ignore, but together, we can prevent a tragedy. Learn the signs of overdose and know that naloxone saves lives. Your courage and awareness can be the key to a second chance.

🛡️ **What Is Harm Reduction?**
Harm reduction is a compassionate, evidence-based approach to substance use that focuses on minimizing the negative consequences of alcohol and drug abuse—without requiring abstinence. It meets people where they are and empowers them to make safer, healthier choices.

💡 **Harm Reduction Strategies Include:**
- Distribution of naloxone (Narcan) to reverse opioid overdoses
- Fentanyl and xylazine test strips to detect dangerous substances
- Needle exchange programs to prevent the spread of disease
- Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid and alcohol use disorders
- Education and outreach to reduce stigma and promote safer practices
- Managed alcohol programs and overdose prevention centers

📊 **Harm Reduction Is Working in Northern Kentucky:**
- In **2024**, Kentucky saw a **30.2% decrease in overdose deaths** compared to the previous year—a trend attributed in part to expanded harm reduction efforts like naloxone distribution.
- In **2022**, emergency department visits for nonfatal drug overdoses in Kentucky dropped by **12.9%**, showing progress in preventing crisis-level outcomes.

❤️ Harm reduction saves lives, builds trust, and opens the door to recovery. It’s not about enabling—it’s about empowering.

Transportation remains a consistent barrier for many of our Candidates and Members. That’s why Life Learning Center established the Bike Program — to help ease this challenge and provide a reliable way for individuals to get to class and work without relying solely on public transportation. Thanks to our dedicated bicycle program volunteers, participants receive refurbished bicycles at no cost, giving them greater independence and mobility. According to one of our Members, Tara Anderson, "receiving the bicycle from LLC has greatly improved my daily commute, allowing me to get to and from work more efficiently and with less travel time. It also sparked a new interest in cycling, which has since grown into a rewarding and enjoyable hobby." For more information on our bike program, please visit Life Learning Center and ask our Care team how you can receive a bike.
