For more than 30 years, I’ve watched the Cañon City community grow stronger through grit, connection, and care. But right now, we’re missing something essential — a place where health, safety, and community meet: a pool.

A community pool is more than a place to swim. It’s where children learn life-saving skills. Where teens discover confidence and discipline. Where adults find strength and stress relief. And where older adults reclaim mobility and belonging.

As a health coach and founder of both a business and a nonprofit focused on well-being, I know that movement and connection are the foundation of health. Because shame doesn’t heal metabolism. But understanding does.

Intro: You Stepped Off the Shot… and Into a Storm

Maybe it started with one pair of pants feeling tighter. Or the return of a craving you thought you’d buried. Or maybe it was the scale — whispering “See? This was never real.”
And just like that, the shame creeps in. You should’ve tapered slower. You should’ve tracked better. You should’ve known this would happen.
But here’s the thing: You did your best — with the tools you had. This week, we’re going to reframe the rebound. Not as failure… …but as feedback.

🔓 What I’d Say If We Were on Zoom Right Now…

You look at the scale. It moved. And your first thought is, “I knew it. I screwed this up.”
If we were face-to-face right now, I’d gently stop you. And say: You didn’t fail. Your biology responded. The scale didn’t jump out of spite. It responded to a body that was suddenly expected to run without the same fuel, the same hunger suppression, the same cues.
This is not moral failure. It’s metabolic feedback. And you get to shift the story — now with tools, not shame.

So… let’s debunk the myth.
Rebound weight doesn’t mean you lack discipline. It usually means your body was never taught to self-regulate post-shot.
Here’s what often happens:

It started with a simple change.

We’d moved the bird feeder to a hook on the back porch—just temporarily—during some yard maintenance.

A few days later, I glanced out the window and there she was.

A mother house finch.

Not eating.

Sitting.

Inside the feeder.

And nestled beneath her were four tiny blue eggs.

We watched.

Day by day, she stayed—through wind, through stillness.

Then one morning, they hatched.

But now, the nest is quieter.

The fledglings have gone.
