We hope all is well. Take a look at the health of your nails. It may have been awhile since you inspected your nails or possibly had nails covered with polish all summer.
Please check out this quick informative read below regarding nail fungus!

Nail fungus(onychomycosis)is a common issue. It is prevalent amongst the elderly, immunocompromised, individuals who get cross infection from nail salons, and those who neglect their nails. Fungal nails can appear as discolored, thickened, crumbly and or brittle. For the most part, nail fungus can take many months to treat.

We recommend routine footcare for diabetic and elderly which involves debridement of nails to prevent infections, pain and or ulcers. In addition, topical anti fungals and/or oral antifungals can help resolve or improve nail fungus.

Make an appointment in office for an assessment by Dr.Fischer or Dr.Haskin-Cole.

We hope everyone is enjoying the summer and continue to remain safe and healthy. As we are spend more time out in the sun with increased exposure to UV rays it is imperative we use sunscreen all over our body- and that includes the feet!

Melanoma is a form of skin cancer with the highest mortality. Make sure to check your skin daily for any new mole like lesions. Early detection is key for a more favorable prognosis.

Please remember the acronym ABCDE

Asymmetry: Half of the lesion is not identical to the other.

Border: The lesion has an irregular, ragged, or indistinct border.

Color: The lesion is more than one color.

Diameter: The lesion has a diameter greater than 6 millimeters.

Evolution: The lesion gradually changes in size, shape, or color.

Risk factors for skin cancer are: pale skin, increased exposure to sunlight, use of uv lamps in tanning beds or gel manicures, having moles and/or family history of melanoma.

Pay attention to any discoloration of your nails extending to the cuticle. In addition, any growths/ discolorations in between the toes.

Schedule a consultation with Dr. Fischer or Dr. Haskin-Cole if you have any concerns.
