This morning was the first Zoom call for the 90 Day Fasting Group I am facilitating. (And no, we are not fasting fo 90 days straight. 😉)

It was so good.

It’s a small group so the participants get a large amount of Q&A time.

Today we:
🗣️Set realistic goals.
🗣️Shared big take-aways and “aha” moments from this week’s reading.
🗣️Discussed using calories and macro data as a tool to learn what our bodies need. Not as a way to starve ourselves or contribute to diet culture.

So excited to see the wins for these ladies in the upcoming weeks.

Yoga for Caregivers and First Responders starts this week. There is still a spot for you.

♥️Release tension from a body stuck in fight or flight stress response.
♥️Regulate your nervous system through breath and movement.
♥️Reconnect with yourself in ways talk therapy can’t always accomplish.
♥️No flexibility or experience required.

Created by a fellow caregiver, for those who give so much.

I am going to be honest, intermittent fasting is free. You do not need me to incorporate it into your life. BUT, if you want some assistance surfing the lessons and questions that come with intermittent fasting, blood sugar control and gut health, I am here for you.

This group kicks off September 2nd. We will be working our way through the Fast Like a Girl book. So go ahead and order that if you plan on participating.

Also, we meet for 30 minutes every Saturday morning on Zoom at 8:30 for Q&A as well as goal setting strategy.

This is why I prioritize an hour at the end of each Life by Design vision board workshop for goal setting and action planning. Because “vision within action is merely a dream.”

Two books that hit different after spending 12 weeks as a social work intern at a domestic violence and human trafficking shelter.

1. Women Who Run With the Wolves. The metaphors on women, freedom, autonomy, use of boundaries and voice. The taming of our wildness…how these things are stolen. The traps we can fall into as women…they all have taken on new meaning. If it seems like it is taking me forever to get through this book, it is. Simply because sometimes I have to digest it for a while.

2.. Journal. I dont think you can be of service in a shelter like this and not stare into the abyss of your own past at least for a moment. You either move into healing or you descend into chaos. You get to choose. Journals are the greatest self-development and growth tool on the market. It provides a container to dump things in. Out of your brain and onto paper. It’s not yours anymore (if you don’t want it to be). Journaling provides a space to write a new narrative around old stories and events that no longer serve you. All that to say, this lil leather journal has been a life saver. And yes, I am coming out of this internship wilder, whole and wiser. Something I was not expecting but am incredibly grateful to have experienced.

“The simplest and most accessible ingredient for healing—stories.” Clarissa Pinkola Estes.

This is a bit of my story. Stay nourished. Stay wild. ♥️

Things are shifting here at Nourishing Practices. New things to come this fall. But before they can be birthed into this world, there must be rest.

For me, that means no social media apps on my phone. Just a few minutes to check in when I check emails. So if you send a message and there is not a response, there will be at some point, just not immediately. 😉

Stay feral. Stay nourished.

I am grateful for all the women that have and continue to mother me and the same for my daughter. I am also grateful for giving myself grace early on in my daughters life (way before i read this quote) to encourage her to seek guidance from women that had more or different life experiences than I had. I am grateful forever the sisterhood that has always taken my daughter under their wings and provided perspective and protection when she needed it. Motherhood was never meant to be done alone. Raising wild creative women is a community effort.

♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

“Even if you have the most wonderful mother in the world, you may eventually have more than one. As I have often told my own daughters, you are born to one mother, but if you are lucky, you will have more than one. And among them all, you will find most of what you need.

Your relationships with today’s las madres, the many mothers, will most likely be ongoing ones, for the need for guidance and advisory is never outgrown, nor, from the point of view of women’s deep creative life, should it ever be.” - Clarissa Pinkola Etes, Ph.D

And that’s a wrap for this week. This week the table held space for a runner rehabing a back injury, a social warrior doing some preventative mental health care, a grandmother managing low back pain until she can have surgery, someone doing their fibromyalgia maintenance, a golfer making sure his spinal mobility is optimal and a husband-wife duo making sure they stay healthy well into retirement.

(Also, the husband told me he really doesn’t like massages because he rarely feels comfortable with the practitioner…after sleeping through his 90 minute massage, he said “It was an honor to be on your table.” 😆😍)

Weekend appointments are from 11-4pm on the first and third Saturday of each month. Those spots book fast. So if you want one in June or July, now is the time to schedule that appointment. 😉

Your Sunday reminder to care for yourself, your family and your village.

When you find yourself getting caught up in the propaganda machine, check in and ask yourself what is behind the emotion you are feeling? What actions can you take? And who is profiting from manipulating your emotions? What would life feel like if you backed away from the propaganda machines? What would you invest your energy into?

Remember, you are in control of what you consume. Your nervous system constantly being in fight or flight is not good for your physical or mental health. So choose what and how much you consume wisely. (This applies to news and food.) Nourish with intention.
