If you woke this morning feeling sluggish, with a stiff lower back that made it hard to get out of bed
you may need to give extra attention to strengthening your core muscles
🌀What a “strong core” looks like varies from person to person. It’s entirely possible to have a body with high body fat but a strong core–or a neglected core despite having strong, toned arm & leg muscles‼️
🌀what determines the strength of your core is how you use it, not what it looks like. A strong core is essential to all age groups. A baby can’t turn over, sit up or take a first step without core strength.
🌀As we age core strengthening movements & exercises are often neglected leading to:
* more fatigue
*less endurance
*poor posture
*impaired balance
*lower back pain
*weak pelvic floor

Standing or sitting in a chair with arms overhead, with or without weights, alternating right/left knee lifts-

Strengthening the core will also improve balance, fire up your glute muscles, strengthen arm & back muscles & the pelvic floor.

🤦🏼‍♀️It seems the “secret” from ~150 C.E. is still the best advice in 2026‼️the basics remain the basics for a reason: They WORK😁

Fact: Yoga enthusiasts are typically pictured as young, fit, and flexible…..”
Reality: More than one third of Yoga Students are over 50…..& you may not even realize you practice yoga‼️

Yoga was considered a fringe, hippie activity back when I started practicing in my early 20s by watching Yoga on PBS. As an older yoga teacher, turning 76 in a few weeks, I have an appreciation for everything I’ve learned over the past 5 years teaching Yoga, Exercise Fitness & Chair Yoga at the Foley Senior Center.
I learned that I could introduce the health benefits of yoga into each class by combining both my yoga & Kung Fu skills into all classes.

When was the last time you thought about how and when you breathe❓ Biologically speaking, breathing is a rhythmic, involuntary process regulated by the body. Most of us do it about 12 to 20 times per minute. It’s kind of a requirement on the standard “staying alive” checklist✅

Where you breathe from matters: Your belly and not your chest.
