A true story shared by a mother ...
š¢ I was going to s***k my son for the first time, but thenā¦
He handed me this photo with tears in his eyes, andā¦
I realized the horrible mistake I almost made.
My six-year-old son was suspended.
āHeās just a bad kid. If he does this again, Iām going to have to expel himā his principle told me.
Let me clarify one thing ā my son is NOT a bad kidā¦
He was diagnosed with ADHD in preschool.
He was not like other kids who could sit in their seat and follow directions.
At home, he was always getting in time-outs.
At school, he was often in trouble because he could not control himself, but worst of allā¦
He would hit other kids when he thought they were making fun of him.
When you are told your kindergartener is suspended, itās devastating.
I did not know much about ADHD, butā¦
I did not want to medicate my son at such a young age.
After his suspension ended,
We were required to meet with the schoolās counselor once a week.
During our very first meeting,
The counselor provided me with more information about ADHD andā¦
Recommended a list of 10 childrenās books she thought would help my son.
She said these books would help our son control his actions and better understand his own emotions.
I really doubted some stupid books would do anything to help, butā¦
I ordered them anyways.
I started reading one book to my son every night, without fail, andā¦
After only the 2nd book, he told me he wanted to work on becoming a better person.
By the 10th book, even his teacher noticed an improvement in his attitude!
He was much calmer and āin controlā :)
My beautiful little boy tried harder in school.
He started making friends.
He woke up excited for class, andā¦
He was getting his homework done faster than ever!
I was amazed by how much my son had learned from these books!
š Half a year has passed since I first spoke to the school counselor, and
My son has not had any problems at school.
Heās still my little ball of energy at home, butā¦
At school, heās made friends with almost everyone in his class, andā¦
He has not laid a finger on anyone since!
