Cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF), often measured by VO₂ max, is strongly associated with lower risk of death. It’s not a surprise studies have shown athletes live longer.
🫁 One study found that people in the “elite” fitness group had an 80% lower risk for all-cause mortality compared with the lowest fitness group.
🫀 In one specific cohort study: the “lowest fitness” group had nearly 4× higher mortality risk compared to the highest fitness group.
For muscle strength?
💪 A meta-analysis of 38 studies (~1.9 million participants) found that higher levels of upper/lower body muscular strength were associated with a 31% lower risk for all-cause mortality compared to lower strength.
