🎃 October is Menopause Awareness Month and women, historically in the United States, have not received the care that we need when it comes to this phase of life. Stay tuned for part 3 discussing menopause and the skin 🧴
🔬Historically in research trials, women were considered “too complex” due to hormonal cycles. Until the 1990s, women were often excluded from clinical trials altogether.
❌ Conditions primarily affecting women (e.g., PCOS, endometriosis, perimenopausal symptoms) are underfunded and understudied.
💪Testosterone is culturally and medically framed as a “male” hormone. This has led to less curiosity and investment in understanding its role in women.
📖 In 2002, the WHI reported that using a combination of estrogen + progestin in post‑menopausal women was linked to higher risks of breast cancer, heart attacks, strokes, and blood clots. This was a poorly done study. NEW studies have disproven this and now bioidentical estrogen + progesterone REDUCES these risks. This has caused a lot of fear surrounding HRT and has led to many women not seeking treatment.
It’s time to erase the stigma and support one another through this phase of life. Let’s educate and empower every woman going through the journey and know you are not alone.
