Massage has been an integral part of my own self care for many years. A few years ago I was introduced to Float therapy and my entire wellness plan received an upgrade. We often forget to check in with our bodies and minds, going with the pace of our outside worlds, we don’t realize the effects it has on our selves until muscles are screaming and our bodies are shutting down.
Having had my first massage after being diagnosed with bone cancer at 16 years old, I saw and felt first hand how Massage can transform your body into a full functioning machine, even when powerful chemicals are coursing through your veins. Halfway through treatment and post surgery, I was told to stop getting Massage Therapy. After stopping, I was sicker than I had been before and wound up in the hospital much more frequently. Not only was I sicker, but the pain from my below knee amputation was more intense and unbearable. I had witnessed first hand the changes my body and mind had gone through from chemotherapy and the amputation I endured to recover successfully from cancer.
Surviving bone cancer changed my life and my idea of wellness entirely. Reincorporating Massage Therapy has made a tremendous difference to my overall well being. Adding Epsom Salt baths to my wellness routine was not only a great time to relax and create a time out for myself, it encouraged recovery on not only a physical level, but an emotional one as well. With these two therapies, I found I was sleeping better and used pain relievers much less frequently.
After cancer, graduating from college and having my 2 amazing children, I had found my way into insurance and corporate America. The long commutes, daily grind and everyday desk work didn’t give me the satisfaction I was looking for in a career. While working full time, I decided to go back to school for Massage Therapy. This is where I found my purpose and my gift. Massage Therapy resonated so deeply with me, not only something I enjoyed, I was able to provide help to others.
