We were tested with the recent 🔥. We had 40 minutes to leave our home. We were evacuated for 9 days and our home was in serious danger. We are blessed to have a motorhome that we could retreat to and with. I continued to work via Telehealth every day. It was not easy, but we ALL made it work. Whenever I’ve had hardship in my life, I’ve found it easier to serve than to asked to be served. It is in serving as a physician that I forget about my own struggles. In bringing peace and health to my patients, I find peace and joy myself.

This is a moment of fresh air with my family during a long day. We were all glad to be home safe this week, but we never lost sight of our mission to serve the sick. After all, they needed us and Gods work never ends.

“Behold, I will bring to it health and healing, and I will heal them; and I will reveal to them an abundance of peace and truth.” Jeremiah 33:6

We had a wildfire erupt yesterday and had 40 minutes to evacuate our home. What would you bring? I brought a rosary blessed by Pope John Paul II, medications, my white coat and laptop. We had to evacuate our farm which wasn’t easy with alpacas chickens dogs and llamas. All I could think of was the story of Jesus and the rich young man. The young man asks how to I get to heaven? Jesus says give away all of your belongings and come with me. I think a fire evacuation is sort of like this. Give it all away to God and follow Him. We are blessed to have a motorhome and to be staying far from the police gated fire area. We will call the motorhome The Ark. God has been instructing me to get it ready for this very moment in my heart. Are you ready when you are called to simply leave it all?

God Bless the firefighters and safety officers who risk their lives, the doctors and nurses who serve those affected by wildfires and all those people addicted to their things. We all need a reminder to simply give it up and follow Him. Appreciate your prayers and support.

God is great and I am grateful for everyday for our home...planet Earth. Standing on top of a volcano is one way to remember how small we are and how magnificent this planet is. As Catholics, I pray we always remember to take care of it, respect it and cherish. This Earth is NOT ours for exploitation and personal gain, but a gift on loan from the most high. God Bless!

“And he spoke to them at length in parables, saying: “A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell on the path…”

Years ago we planted box gardens in the front of our house. We wanted to teach our girls the importance in growing your own food as well as give them an understanding of where our food really comes from.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In general, the girls love helping in the garden. And they certainly love eating anything we pick from the garden. Somehow fruits and vegetables they were unwilling to try before, become wonderfully delicious when they pick it themselves.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Gardening is a great way to connect with people and the environment. And can be a calm time for reflection.

This Sunday we heard how Jesus called the disciples to action. Our lives shouldn’t be defined by passive expectation of eternal life through faith alone, but rather through diligent dedication to how Jesus tells us to live. If this science about lifestyle were known then, what would Jesus have said?

Our lifestyles are killing us prematurely! Many will point figures at someone else’s lifestyle. Many claim to have a healthy lifestyle. Yet, many of us will die from preventable causes. There will be 900,000 + premature deaths this year in the US alone. What would Jesus say?

I think he would tell us that our lifestyles, what we eat, how we move, the toxins we consume, how we stress, and our lack of spiritual connections are pulling us away from God. We have been given the gift of life through our bodies. How do we show our gratitude for this gift? This statistic from the American of Lifestyle Medicine would suggests very poorly.

Isn’t it time for a change? Isn’t time to ask a doctor if you are living healthfully? Isn’t it time for the humility to learn how to live healthier? Come visit me at CatholicWell.com. I can help. Happy Lifestyle Medicine week!

Lord, I pray that we all can find humility in asking how we can live a life that shows God how thankful we are for our bodies and minds. Amen

Pets and Our Health
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Wellness is about achieving our maximal potential. How do pets help us do this? Recall that we must build a framework for wellness first. If we need spiritual connections, then pets fill part of that need. We all need spiritual connections in some way. With God, our earth/nature, and one another. Some people that have trouble with humans, because of abuse, hurt, social anxiety, addictions need a comfort animal to spiritually connect with, as the human relationships are too toxic for them.

With pet adoptions at an all time high, it’s not surprise that word is out. Be steadfast in your faith. With strong faith, you will have a strong mind. Your strength comes in knowing and in trusting God. In this time of crisis, it is important that we do not test God by doing things that are proven to cause harm. There have been some that have suggested that we should all simply go out and ignore the warnings about the virus, putting our faith in God. In my mind, this is testing God. Jesus never tested God in the desert, nor should we. We shouldn’t our relationships with anyone we love.

Being steadfast in mind, however, reflects upon your inner peace. Peace comes from loving and trusting in God. As Americans, we hate to sacrifice anything. As we sacrifice social gatherings, events, we turn towards that which truly gives peace and that is trusting and loving in God. This is enough.

People keep asking when will the world go back to the way it was. It is my sincere hope that it never does. I hope that in these moments of silence and in isolation that all of us have found a steadfast mind and the World will be a better, more peaceful place when this is over.

Reminiscing about Zion National Park this week as we visited there a year ago today. Obviously, this bible passage refers to a different Zion but it still relates to waiting to go to a wonderful place. Daydreaming about the places we will once again visit is helpful during stay-at-home orders. And hope is always a useful tool when going through struggles.
Where do your daydreams take you?

I’d like to introduce myself. I’m Doctor Jeremy. I started Catholic Well as a source for Catholic health and wellness. Catholics are unique in that their spiritual health is at the core of their physical and mental health. Catholics need more than standard healthcare. They need a guide that considers their mind body and soul. Spiritual health is at the core for Catholics.

I am a medical doctor with 11 years of experience. I have been in the emergency room for the last 11 years. I’ve seen the end stage of far too many diseases that could’ve been prevented. I became highly motivated to prevent disease and began research on the origins of many of these lifestyle diseases. I joined the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. I now advise Catholics and anyone who’s interested in lifestyle improvement.

I am a lifetime Lutheran, growing up attending church weekly, confirmation, first communion, baptism and a Lutheran Church. I married a Catholic woman. My mother was also Catholic. My grandfather a devout Irish Catholic attended mass daily. I was called to conversion to Catholicism in 2019. In discussion with my sponsor Fr. Shawn Conoboy of Youngstown Ohio once, I told him conversion was like coming home. When you come home for a Thanksgiving dinner, the first thing you ask to do is “how can I help.” As a lifestyle medicine physician and a medical doctor of 11 years, the way I can help is through prevention of illness and achievement of a lifestyle that glorifies God with all my patients. Blessings to you all.
