The holidays often rush by, but the moments that matter most are quiet, soft, and fleeting.
Slowing down isn’t just a pause, it’s a way to fully be present with the people we love, to notice the beauty in the little things, and to let gratitude fill every corner of our hearts.
Here are 7 ways we can ground ourselves before the rush kicks in:
1. Avoid checking your phone upon waking & before bed:
In the morning, give yourself the first 5–10 minutes just for you. A stretch in bed, a slow breath, or a moment to check in with yourself. You’ll feel calmer and more anchored heading into your day. In the evening, put your phone “to bed” at least an hour before you sleep. Instead try soft lighting, a cup of tea, or reading your favorite book.
2. Do a 2 minute self check in:
Before your phone and before the to-do list…place one hand on your heart and one on your belly. Ask yourself: How am I feeling today? What do I need? This alone can shift your entire day.
3. Anchor into your breath (especially when things get busy):
Try a simple pattern like inhale for 4, exhale for 6. Long exhales signal safety to the body, helping your nervous system settle instantly.
4. Create more slow moments throughout your day:
Slow transitions, slow walking, slow morning routines. Your body interprets slowness as calm. It’s your secret weapon when everything else speeds up.
5. Set gentle boundaries before you need them:
Decide ahead of time what you’re available for (and what you’re not). A simple: “I’d love to, but I can’t commit to that this year” protects our peace more than we realize.
6. Use daily affirmations to set your energy:
When you intentionally choose your thoughts each morning, you create structure and stability inside yourself before the world adds its noise.
Say your affirmation out loud while placing a hand on your heart or belly. Feeling the words in your body helps them land deeper than just repeating them in your mind. Some ideas could be:
✨ “I move with intention not urgency.”
✨ “I soften into what supports me.”
✨ “I am safe to slow down.”
